Had this from day 1. Every Costco uses only Nitrogen.

Good one. Nitrogen is actually lighter than Oxygen though.....Oxygen (O2) is a smaller molecule than nitrogen(N2) though,(its skinnier) so it slips through rubber about 3-4 times more rapidly even though it weighs more.

Race teams do use Nitrogen, YES it is easier to determine hot pressures with nitrogen than with air, BUT the main reason is that there are no air compressors in pit lane Eveything that is pneumatic runs off compressed nitrogen.

I only use it when i have access to it free. Paying upwards of $100 for a nitrogen fill is ridiculous, you will never see that money in return in tire life. And if the reason you use it is because you dont have to check your tire pressures as often.....well thats just lazy beyong belief and maybe you should spend your disposable income on a chauffer

First of all Nitrogen is better than oxygen, period. Second of all for $30 for all 4 tires will come out WAY cheaper than the wear and tare using oxygen. Besides I tavel accross country NY tyo AZ what am I suppose to do on an interstate at 80 MPH in the middle of nowhere when the STUPID tire pressure light comes on ??? Its not lazy buddy its common sense and if you spent 30K for a camaro what the hell is $30 bucks more.
DA think about it...............................

I called the Costco tire service dept at my local San Diego Costco - across the street for me. They advertise Nitrogen filled when you get tires. See this:

http://tires.costco.com/TSSapp/TireI...age&cid=239426

I called to ask the price of getting my current tires filled and he told me as long as I was a member it would be free. We'll see Wed when I bring my car there for a fill No appointments, first come first served.

Thanks.

First of all, we arent comparing oxygen and nitrogen. we are comparing a tire filled with 78% nitrogen content to a tire filled with about 97% nitrogen content.

I havent seen N2 services that inexpensively in my area, they were previously close to $100 for a >95% N2 purge. I am sure its dropped, but its still not free Your tire tread will wear off long before the tire suffers any ill effects due to oxidation of the inside of the tire. Because thats all youre minimizing....oxidation INSIDE, the whole ouside of the tire is still exposed to the harsh oxygen and every other contaminant for its entire life.

Not sure exactly what youre shooting for here.....youre supposed to maintain your tire pressure then the light wont come on......If you cant be bothered to check your tire pressure before you leave on a 2,000 mile trip you have proved my point....laziness. Lets also not forget that while N2 has a lower coefficient of expansion than air does, its only about 20%, so if the temperature difference between NY and AZ is 50degrees instead of a 5psi pressure change youll have a 4psi pressure change, which means youll still need to adjust your pressures, and now you have to find a place that does N2 otherwise you completely wasted $30

Its not common sense, its marketing. Youre right, $30 isnt much, but I can think of much better ways to blow $30.
