Gas Guzzler tax?

What's the final word on a "Gas Guzzler Tax"? Will the LS3 paired with the six speed manual be taxed?

Not yet, heard the Gas Guzzler standards are being raised a bit

No gas guzzler tax, as far as I know. LS3 gets good fuel economy, all things considered. Not that anyone wants to pay another $1700-2000 dollars like SRT-8 Challengers have to deal with.

I think the EPA estimated fuel mileage is around 13 or 14 city and 20 highway. I don't know what the EPA requirements are, but according to Wikipedia, the minimum is 22.5 MPG. When I went to a Pontiac dealer to check the G8 out, I was told that the tax is $1700. The only trim level that has a tax is the GXP. The GT doesn't have one.

gxp weighs more and gets worse mileage, and doesnt have cags.....thats why it has the 1700 tax...

WE HAVE BEEN TOLD BY GM NO GAS GUZZLER.....extra commentary not needed.

Ok sorry, it was just a simple question and in my opinion well justified seeing as the cars (Camaro and G8) are very similar cars...and not to add any fuel to the fire but since when do you believe everything you hear, there have been many occasions when we were told one thing and GM has done another

I know fbodfather said that there's no gas guzzler tax but it doesn't add up for the SS.
From the last IDL...
15/22 man = 18.15 combined
15/23 auto = 18.6 combined

According to the EPA, this should have a tax of $2600 for the manual and $2100 for the auto.

Now, it must be noted that the manufacturer pays this tax, not the consumer. They usually would pass it on but perhaps this is already figured into the price of the car? How is it done with the Corvette? And how could we expect the Camaro not to have it while the Corvette (edit: probably ZR1) has it?

Edit: This explains it...
Quote:
EPA and manufacturers use the same test to measure vehicle fuel economy for the Gas Guzzler Tax and for new car fuel economy labels. However, the calculation procedures for tax and label purposes differ, resulting in different fuel economy values. This is because an adjustment factor is applied to the fuel economy test results for purposes of the label, but not for the tax. The adjustment is intended to help account for the differences between “real-world” and laboratory testing conditions.

EPA conducts fuel economy tests in a laboratory on a dynamometer (a device similar to a treadmill). Laboratory conditions can be different from real world conditions for such parameters as vehicle speeds, acceleration rates, driving patterns, ambient temperatures, fuel type, tire pressure, wind resistance, etc. EPA studies indicate that vehicles driven by typical drivers under typical road conditions get approximately 90 percent of the laboratory test-based city miles per gallon (mpg) value and approximately78 percent of laboratory highway mpg value. This difference is referred to as “in-use shortfall.” To account for the in-use shortfall, the city and highway mpg values listed in Fuel Economy Guide and shown on fuel economy labels are multiplied by 0.90 for the city test and 0.78 for the highway test. However, the combined city and highway fuel economy that is used to determine tax liability is not adjusted to account for in-use shortfall, so it is higher than the mpg values provided in the Fuel Economy Guide (www.fueleconomy.gov) and posted on the window stickers of new vehicles.
