Camaro SS vs Evo X

The other day saw a great add for 10k off sticker for an evo x so I said why not go I we take a look at it. I took it for a test drive and end up very impressed with the little for door that it got me thinking to a nother possibility. I the cars are a bit different, each having there strengths and weaknesss. Handeling even In the wet was amazing on that highway On ramp, and despite only having a 5sp manual it was a really nice gear box. Downsides if the car bit as nice looking as the camaro obviosly, small trunk and the rear seats don't go down, not the nicest interior and stock for stock not quite as fast in a str8 line. But yields slot of power with only a few mods

I need some camaro guys t talk some sense out of me b/c this 5k over msrp every where is killing me. Haven't been able t drive the cameo yet so shine some light

EVO X handles better than the SS. EVO handle extremely well. But the EVO X isn't all that fast in a staight line.

In a straight line drag race (stock vs stock) the SS will smoke it big time.

But of course - the EVO can be easily modded to go fast. But strickly speaking (stock vs stock) it doesn't stand a chance in a drag race.

Also, shop around or wait it out a bit, and you should be able to get a Camaro for MSRP. Also, you should be able to find a dealer that will order you a Camaro for MSRP.

How is the Evo not as fast in a straight line? It does 0-60 in the mid-high 4's.... and the quarter in mid 13's...

Respectufully I don't believe it. I have been in a few Mitusbishi dealers in the last few months and they were offering the Mitsubishi loyalty($500), the Military disccount($500) and the Factory disccount ($2000 for the X MR and $1500 for the regular X).

I just don't see that happening. Mitsubishi built the Evo X in 2008 but they did not built any in 2009. The 2010 are coming up soon so the 2008 would have a big disccount. $10000 disccount sounds totally uncomprehensible.

Can you please provide your source(dealer)? Thanks!!

It's not a Camaro. It's not muscle. There's no HUGE line to buy one. THe Camaro is the hottest car to come along in YEARS! The Emo? Just another ricey little sedan.

thanks mr obvious. clearly this is a vs thread and not a popularity contest.

iv driven both cars and both to me are about equal.

simularities between the to:
-both have asom power
-both hand very well
-both have 40k price tags(in canada anyway)
-both have small trunks
-both have asom sound systems
-both have pretty blah interior looks
-both look deadly coming down the road
-both have a huge aftermarket(im aware the camaro just came out but the ls3 has been around the block, pun intended)
-both have brembo brakes

differences between them:
-the evo x has a harsher ride than the ss floaty suspension
-the evo puts out worst gas milage
-the evo has a navigation system
-the camaro has 2 less doors which = less sitting space
-the evo is superior in wet/snowy conditions
-the camaro is more roomy
-the camaro has a huge fan base (clearly its only been living for 40 sum years lol)
- the recaro seats in the evo are wicked for short term drives but not comfy like the camaros seats

thats just off the top of my head. im still waiting for a video comparison
it all depends if u want JDM or american muscle, sleeper or fire breathing monster, rumbling v8 or whistling turbo 4.
imo im still debating between the two, i love both but cant seem to choose. somehow all interest in the camaro is a turn off for me cause i kinda dont want to see them on the roads all the time like the mustang.

The evo was a fully equipped gsr, navi the works, coming out t be 28k or 30k with 0% apr, really good deal, i coulnt believe when i first saw it in the paper. Whichever car i will definitely be moding it, i hope the tranny in the camaro is just as smooth as the evo's b/c i really liked its gearbox.
The dealer is Mitsubishi of delray in florida.

SSmoked, the Evo's following is pretty big... I wouldn't list that as a difference.

Styling wise the evo is the exact opposite of what i'd want to drive. It's numbers are impressive and awd would be great during the winter.Same goes for the wrx

You forgot that the Camaro will sound 10 times better. I also agree that it looks much better.

But it depends on what you want to do, road race or drag race. Sure an Evo can run every quickly in the quarter but if you keep launching hard things will break. Buy the car depending on what kind of racing you will do.

With the Evo X you can flash the ECU with the Cobb AccessPort Stage 1 map to bump up the power a bit. You can flash back the stock ECU map and the dealership can't tell you touched the ECU. The stock ECU runs very very rich.

And the for the exhaust, this sound good. Not sounding rice.

I am running a Perrin Stage 1 map. I don't have a dyno sheet but from the company:

My gas mileage is about 22 in the city and 29 on the Highway. It varies sometimes. I don't drive like grandma either.

Turbo sounds nice but there's no comparison to a V8 rumble, in my opinion. I know, I have a Buick Grand National, turbo V6, the whine is nice but I'll take the sound of a V8 any day.

For 10k off sticker I can see why this is difficult for you, but why would you pay 5k over MSRP for the Camaro? You must have gone to Schuemacher or Roger Dean, don't waste your time with with either. They will rip you off on the show room and I've heard nothing good about either's service department. I had to order mine in Tampa to get my pre-order for MSRP, but now Maroone in Greenacres is selling for MSRP. If that doesn't work I can put you in touch with the Tampa dealer.

It's tough, a loaded GSR vs. a stock SS for the same price. Which car do you really want, we are obviously on a Camaro forum so I assum you're leaning toward the SS. I know I would not enjoy the turbo Evo in the long run. It would be fun driving but I can't stand the turbo lag of my girlfriend Audi. I've alway had a V-8, so I'm a little spoiled.
