'13 price diff dealer vs cars.com = $553
Hello All. Just joined & this is my 1st post.
I went to a dealership yesterday to purchase/order a 2013 2lt. I took the Cars.com build info and the price sheet that GearheadSS posted. The dealership told me that the price info on Cars was not correct. There is a $553 difference. Of course, Cars dealer cost info was low No matter how many times I asked to see the actual dealer numbers for the base 2lt and all options, they only gave me the "dealer" cost for a base 2lt with destination= $28,398.16 Actually, Cars was higher @ $28,438.00 This does not include tax-ttl-lic & dealer fees. Only the cost of the car with factory options. The '13 camaro we want= 2LT ($28,398.16) Crystal red ($286) w/Beige int 6 spd Auto ($1043) Sunroof ($792) Rally stripes ($414) Spare tire/wheel ($132) My calculator totals a dealer cost of $31,065.16 Dealership totals of dealer cost= $31,618.16 Anyone have any ideas as to who's numbers are right?? Thanks for any help!! |

The info for the invoice pricing on cars.com was dead on for the 2ss convertible with the options I chose. I think your dealer is pulling one over on you.

Not a problem. I would give you my dealer's name, but the St. Louis area is a bit far away from you.

Time to move on to another Dealer
When ever a dealer is not willing to show you where they got their numbers , they are hiding something. A good dealer will show you that their giving you the best price. Even when their selling you a vehicle thats in demand , they will show you why this is the best deal you can get.

Thanks for your replies guys. The salesman told me that he would get all the info that I asked for on monday morning. That's when the lady that does ALL ordering for the dealership will be back in her office (maybe she's the only person there that has the prices??). I'll post what happens tomorrow. Thanks!!

It's possible that Cars.com doesn't take into account the advertising fee that is on your dealer's invoice. Some dealers have an advertising fee as high as 2% of MSRP.

Don't know about your area but the only advertisement I have seen on the camaro was for the zl1 on the speed channel. Not exactly burning up the air time either.

It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with commercials for the car. It's money charged to the dealer by GM for being part of a certain advertising group. All dealers within that group pay a certain percentage and it is added to the invoice by GM because the dealer has to pay it when they pay for the car.

Advertisement fee?? I don't recall EVER seeing a camaro commercial Or seeing any printed ads either. Granted, not like i've checked every publication ever printed :o So that just seems like another way to screw the customer imo!! If it wasn't for this site, I still wouldn't know ANY details about the 2013 camaro!! Obvious that the dealership I went to is still in the dark!! If I had to pay anyone for the 2013 camaro info, it would be to this awesome site!!!
It's things like this that really get under my skin. I already know, without hesitation, I will not pay for something that doesn't exist (avertisement). Even if that means I never get one or have to purchase one used!! Thanks to all of you for your input!!! |

Just saw your post after I posted mine GearheadSS. Thanks for the clarification! Like I said above, an advertisement fee IS a dealbreaker for me. Never seen a commercial or printed ad for a camaro. Don't make me pay you to advertise all of your other models!

Advertising Fee
I have bought many new vehicles. This fee usually comes up when you are ordering a vehicle that has not been built yet. I have paid it and i have not paid it. It all depends on supply and demand and finding a dealer willing to deal. As far as the Camaro goes , you should be able to find a dealer willing to order without the fee.

This is not a difficult situation. Either you decide that you are willing to pay the $500+ more at this dealer or keep on looking. Do yourself a favor, if you don't like the way you are being treated, don't make a scene, just go to a different dealer.
Try not to take it personal, they are just out to make as much money as possible, just like you are out to spend the least amount possible. At the end of the day, YOU are the one with the power....don't forget that. |
