Radar Detectors!

Greetings Peeps,

On the basis I don't live in DC, VA or on a military base. I am thinking about getting a radar detector to help avoid the 5O's speed traps.

Anyone here use a Radar detector? and if so which one?

Also,

Does anyone have a fancy way of avoiding the fuzzy dice violation with said detectors?

Best, hands down, is Valentine 1. If you're prepared to pay for it \

I have a Cobra and it works on the old radar guns but not the new ones which are built to scramble detectors-- which is why the Valentine is great. My Cobra is fine for me because I live in a poor state where our state troopers don't have updated technology

But IMO, a radar detector pretty much just tells you, "Hey, you're doing 85? you just got a ticket. See that cop?"

I've been using a Beltronics RX65 for years, and it's never failed once.

You can get them new for pretty cheap, and they still are on par with the newer models for a lot less.

i'm not sure whose hands you are using, but V1 is not necessarily the best.

Just general consensus... my boss and several of my friends have them in their corvettes and swear by them.

But, as usual, results will vary by user.

unfortunately, most speed traps use laser these days and no detector can detect a laser unless it's already aimed at the car unfortunately. Your best bet is to buy a detector that has updatable speed trap maps that can warn you when there is a known speed trap. Cops won't be there every time, but at least you'll be reminded to slow down, just in case.

passport is at the top of the running for most independent radar tests, but some have speculated that passport pays many independent radar testing companies for those ratings...

who knows if that's true but both V1 and passport have not updated their radar detector's detecting abilities in quite some time, just added features. that should tell you something about the radar detecting market. it's probably capped. if you get a well-rated detector, the rest you're buying is probably just features. GPS vs. arrows, etc.

I have the passport 9500IX. From what I read, both the 9500 and V1 detect about the same so pick what you want, the directional arrows or the GPS & learning ability of the passport. I know that if I kept getting false signals on the V1 I'de ignore it over time so I got the 9500IX. After a few days around town its totally silent, which is awesome because I'm not conditioned to hear it so when it goes off I know its not crying wolf!

I have a Beltronics V955 andfor the money, it's hard to beat. I researched a lot of comparisons, and it usually ranked among the best. It's saved me several times.
