That's the question.....
Stocker 69 pricing peaked last year from what I've seen....and is very soft right now. It used to be that stockers fetched top dollar...but its the resto/mods that are in the $70s-$90s. Stocker Z-28s are lucky to see $50K...and it needs to be the original block...and heads and intake/carb and exhaust and stamped trans.... Stocker SS 350s with T350s are lucky to see the $30K-$35K range.....and if not a #'s matching car.....I've seen em go for $22K to $28K depending on condition....its more economical to gut em and resto/mod em......and that's about $50K in cost. |

Get the COPO.
If you don't end up using it or enjoying it you can easily sell it. Then you can buy WHATEVER '69 Camaro you want. Full resto perfect '69 Z28 cross-ram, etc, etc.

Keep the 69 and find another way to finance the COPO if possible. The COPO will go up in value, but not for another 20-30 years, the 69 will also and I think you will have a very hard time replacing such a well documented original 69.
I was debating on doing the same with my well documented 68 RS/SS and a new Z/28, but after watching the market which is very low for collector cars right now and looking back on how hard it was to find the 68 in decent shape with documentation, I have decided to find a different way to finance the Z/28, luckily I could only find a 2015 allocation so I have a little while to save up. To be honest what you will get from the 69 won't get you very close pricewise to the COPO with the market the way it is right now. When the market bounces back in 5-10 years you will be kicking yourself for selling the 69 because they will be back up 2-3 time what their bringing now.

Salesman at my dealer got a first year COPO.
He turned around and sold it for $300,000. Funded his kid's college. But nowaday's, that kind of return won't happen. I see lots of COPO's at LSX events. Padre |

Question why has this thread turned into a advise thread about if he should by a copo or not. They sell, and there are certain people who aren't interested in a street car,and a copo fits there needs..
If its raced and wins a few races within the NHRA the value will increase over those that just sit....and have no racing history,so I say if it makes you happy and even if its to have for a collection its a great car,as in the coming yrs some people do not understand that CAFE is going to kill the racing and sports car world..

The question now is, what drivetrain do you put in your new COPO? Me, I'd go with the 427. And if I was smart and wanted to invest 90K, I would buy a COPO in a heartbeat. That car is definitely going up in value over the next 10-15 years. Way more than a '69 will--over that same period. Why? Because the guys buying muscle cars now, drove them in high school. Just look at the history of car collecting and you'll see that once the prime buyers age out, the market softens. '32 Fords, '57 Chevys, mid year Vette's, etc. Now everyone is into the early '70's muscle. It doesn't mean the value goes down, it just doesn't go up as much by comparison to their prime years. In 15 years the prime aged buyers will be looking for 5th Gen Camaros. And a ZL1, Z/28 & COPO will be at the top of their list. I may be wrong, but that's my unscientific opinion. Discuss...
