Camaro got shocked.
My camaro had a power line fall on it. The line laid on it for about 30 minutes hot before they got it off. Will this damage the electronics on the car? Car ran fine on the way home but what about down the road? My paint was fine but it scratch up my 370z pretty good. Both cars are 2012. Just wondering if the electronics are damaged?

Highly doubt it, car was not grounded with rubber tires.

I doubt it too, but if it will make you feel better, perhaps your dealer can run a diagnostic to be sure.

Cars can be hit by direct shots of lightning and not be affected. As others stated, no grounding, no problem. Had either of the cars been grounded, you would have watched them arc and burn to the ground.

I would say that this was not a high voltage line, more like a house service 240 volts or less.A high voltage line would have burned his car to a crisp even with rubber tires isolating the car from ground the metal alone would cause an arc.

I have seen cars hit by lightning that were never the same after, with one failure after another.

What Ohten said. If it was a primary line such as 7200 volts or higher could have done some damage. A house service or duplex line to a light or something wouldn't do anything unless it had a break in one of the hot legs. I have worked at electric utility co for 25 years, taken many a line off vehicles, high voltage or not, not much damage usually.

I have seen what a 13.2 (13,200 V) downed line can do to concrete,a car would not stand a chance.

The car will be fine. I think mythbusters did a special, or maybe it was Top Gear? where they put a guy in a Volkswagen and simulated very powerful lightning strikes on the vehicle. It was fine afterwards.
I'd be more worried about damage to the body or paint from the line physically falling on the car--they're quite heavy. |

Tires are not insulators, they are conductors so don't think they will save your life. Go here for more electrical myths. http://www.rge.com/UsageAndSafety/el...fetymyths.html
