Remote starts on a manual is a very bad idea!!! No remote start is designed to work with one. People have installed them and gotten them to work by bypassing the clutch safety switch... problem is you forget the car is in gear and you remote start the car... car takes off! This happened at a local dealership... guy had a remote start on his manual car... car porter didn't realize the car was a manual and was in gear and used the remote start... Car took off across the shop! Luckily no one was hurt!!

There was a story on here last year about a mustang owner who got remote start for his manual then had to have work done somewhere else later that week. The owner failed to inform the service department about the remote start. When he went to pick up the car, the owner started it and the car drove into the lake behind the shop which totaled the mustang. His insurance wouldn't cover it so he got stuck with the bill.

I've also hear stories of peoples cars driving though their living rooms and bedrooms.

Manual transmissions and remote start simply does not go together.

Actually I was just looking at a python system today online that is available for a manual transmission. You have to go through the following Kabuki dance to set it though.

While the vehicle is running, put the transmission in neutral.
Press the vehicle’s foot brake.
2.
Apply the emergency brake.
3.
Release the vehicle’s foot brake.
4.
Note: Pressing the brake again after this step will disable the remote start
feature.
Using the remote control, activate the remote start within 15 seconds. The
5.
parking lights flash 5-times confirming that the remote start is active.
If the parking lights do not flash 5 times, you have not entered manual
6.
transmission mode and will need to repeat steps 1 thru 5.
Turn Off the ignition (the car should stay running when key is turned Off).
7.
Exit the vehicle.
8.
Lock the doors with the remote. (the vehicle should shut Off when locking 9.
the system).

Yeah, I don't think that you would arm it every time. At least they have a smart phone app that allows you to eliminate the remote. I agree it seeming like that its more trouble than its worth though.

There are a few that are made to work on standard trans cars. They all have some sort of sequence to make sure you leave the car in neutral. If you want to be able to remote start a standard car safely, you have to do a sequence before shut down, unless your tranny has a neutral safety switch, which our do not.

compustars setup is the easiest I have used (I have doen ALL of them)

simply apply the hand brake release the foot brake (with vehicle in Neutral)

get out of the vehicle and close the door, upon last door closure the system will kill the vehicle from running and set the security system. (or activate the lock on keyless entry). that's it done. as long as you do not disarm the system and it is not triggered the vehicle will R/S when you are ready.
