Best cam for 1LE
I have a 2014 1Le and am looking for the Perfect cam for my car . Long tubes with HF cats ,Bo ported TB ,CAI with Apex race scoop ,and will be dyno tuned when cam is installed. I want to have good drivability good low end torque good mid range as it is a DD. Looking for 470 RWHP ,nothing crazy . Not going to be drag racing . Is there anyone who has any first had experience .

This was an easy question back in the Ls1 days for us fbody guys. The answer was get the ls6 cam that came from the zo6. Now the answer is a bit more involved as you don't want to get the shake, rattle, and roll. A custom grind is prob where you are heading. I am subscribing to this post to see the specs people recommend as well.

Looks like it comes down to the CPR defibulator or the Night fury . Since it will be tuned by CPR ,that looks like the one . It is going to be a bitch spending $11.00 a quart times 8 for Joe Gibbs LS30 oil to prevent cam/lifter failure.

This begs the question: which cam could we use with almost no impact on reliability? Is there such a cam? It'd be ideal for track duty, too, and I'm OK to lose a bit of power in return. |

Go with the CPR cam. Or just have Joe custom spec one for your application. If you can find it, run conventional Valvoline VR1. $4 a quart, more zinc than youll ever need.

I went with the Kaotik from Vengeance Racing and love it. The car drives stock but runs incredibly strong. It put 485hp to the tires.

The question should be; which cam is best for you! You have to be realistic about your goals. I would not go with a night fury or anything like a Kaotic, which isnthe biggest cam you can fit in a stock LS3. Prepare for some bucking and this cam is good for mid top range. I would not go with something bigger than a 229/236 for a DD. And go for something that will be soft on your valvetrain. That is very important.
But Im just an internet expert. Call a sponsor and ask for a great DD cam, they will spec you out something great. Some plp can daily drive donkey dick cam, but you need a very good tuner and its still hardcore. My last LS2 cam with ls3 heads was a 230/236 620' 620' and it was driving fine, but it was kinda hardcore with the Monster stage 3 clutch. No body could take off with the car without stalling the engine except me...

I will be watching this thread as well as this is almost exactly the same things I want out of my build. I talked to Joe at CPR about it a couple of days ago, and he said that it is very do-able. I will be doing the install work. I will likely order my cam through Joe as he was very helpful with helping me lay the groundwork for my build. NicD will be tuning the car when I get the cam installed.
This car is gonna get wicked in the next few months... Subscribing to this thread as it looks like we both are on the same path...

Am I missing something..
Other than rear end gears, what makes a 1LE any different than all the other LS3's on this site. |
