QC HOLD Explanation

Can anyone assist or know who can assist in finding out why a car is on a QC HOLD status? I can't get any answers as to why mine is on QC HOLD. It has been built, stripes added, and sitting on hold.

There are many reasons why you can be on a QC hold. The cause for QC hold is related to your final inspection and them finding something that needs to be looked at - repaired to pass final QC. From my understanding QC hold can also be a random selection.

There are several Oshawa factory workers on the board that could provide a more exacting answer.

My car was in quality control, it was randomly selected. Not a big deal, it'll just be delivered with more miles on it. mine had 49 (pretty standard). they just run the car through its paces and make sure everything is up to par.

Long story...

Cliff notes...

Car was shipped to dealer without having QC performed
Dealer did not get the invoice from the factory because of it
All of this we did not know
Waited for over a week (car is sitting at the dealer and I can't have it)
Finally get in touch with someone high up in Chevrolet
They explain the problem
Apparently they can't just grab another car still in oshawa and run the QC on it
So they send a car hauler to my dealer
Take it to a local facility to perform QC
Car is back in two days

the wait/frustration was worth it...

I know the OP's frustration well. My car is not on hold, but was built on 9/12 and is still sitting at the plant. Would love an explanation.:(

I'll try to make this as short as possible.

1) ALL Camaros undergo a final QC check before being released.
2) Some are randomly pulled for a full QC audit before being released.

If, in either case, a "flaw" is found, the car is immediately tagged and put on hold. If it's something they can fix without replacement parts, such as a misaligned interior panel, maybe a misaligned hood, etc it goes into queue in one area to be "fixed".

The problem arises if a new part is needed- maybe to replace a cracked trim panel, or a new seat because they found a blemish on the material of the original one. In this case, your car goes into a holding area.

The entire inventory at Oshawa is run JIT (just in time). There is no excess inventory sitting around driving up costs and they simply will NOT go and grab a new piece off the line to replace your defective part(s). What will happen is your defective part(s) will be ordered "special order" to come in with the next standard delivery of "line" parts. Depending on when that next delivery is, is when your car will move into the "ready to fix" queue. Unfortunately, I've seen cars sit there for 2-3 weeks waiting before moving into the queue.

Just like older cars, sometimes there are electrical bug that time to fix. They don't always know the problem and start to throw parts at to try to fix it. Like others have said, the parts are really hard to get, even for the plant.
