Info on JDP STYLE Halo Installation

Hey C5! I just wanted to take a minute and bump/update/edit an old thread. Last may I posted asking for info about installing AAC halos in Eagle Eye headlights. I eventually decided that I would rather not spend money on eagle eyes. More recently I posted a thread about purchasing RS lights and was lucky enough to find a great set at an AMAZING price.

The original thread read as

Thanks!

So, back to my original thread. I want color changing halos, but I don't want them enough to open my headlights. Since I now have RS lights instead of Eagle Eyes the JDP method is a possibility. I have a few questions before I jump the gun.
How reversible is the JDP method of installation?
Are all parts removed left in tact for reinstallation?
How hard is the install with access only through the bottom opening?
Finally, If you have pics, post them up here!

I'm not ordering until I'm sure I can do it. I don't want to throw away $700.

I've taken apart two different ones, it's very tedious and time consuming, but not hard. I wouldn't want to do it to a brand new set though, you always run the risk of breaking them if you mess up. I know it's expensive but if you ship them off to be done and they break them it's not on you. I thought about ordering the halos to put in my stock headlights but I don't really want to open them up and it's a pain to ship them off because then I can't drive it. My mod list is on the back seat right now anyway though because I'm going to be buying some tools for work for a while.

Did you ever end up getting your halos? I was looking at the different options on the AAC website and found a solution. I've taken headlights apart and didn't care for it so I won't with my Camaro.

Why put aftermarket halos in an eagle eye? I think you would be better off using a Morimoto projector in the stock halogen housing and then adding the halo to that. You can paint the housing a flat black. It's been done several times on here.

The Morimoto projector is designed for an HID bulb where the Eagle Eye is designed for a Halogen bulb. Even though you can use an HID bulb in an EE the Morimoto should be a better projector.

On top of that you can do it for a lot less. You're paying about $700 for some EE, then you have to get an HID kit, and then halo rings. If you do a retrofit with Morimotos you can get the HID kit + projectors + bulbs for about $300 (at least that's what they were the last time I checked). You still have to buy the halos though. A can of flat black paint for less than $5 and you should be good. Should be less than 1/2 the cost of EE and the Morimoto projectors are awesome. I've had mine for over a year and a half.

If your going to crack open the headlights the do a retrofit instead of doctoring up the EE.

BTW: I saw where someone used Flashtech and got some halos for their headlights and foglights for about $150. You might look into Flashtech as an alternative.

Hey thanks for the info guys! I didn't realize anybody else replied! The reason I want to go with the eagle eye is simply because it looks better up close than a retrofit. I REALLY can't stand the look of little tiny indicidual leds upon close inspection, and for that reason, I'd rather they be hidden behind a diffuser of some sort.

I probably won't be doing any lighiting stuff any time soon. Priorities have changed and I'm just not gonna spend much money on the car right now. Part of that is wanting true RS headlights and being to hard headed to pay that price for them.

BUT, Thanks again for all the help. I might be considering some lighting in the future.

I know I don't work at "The Zone" anymore but if you decide to purchase the Eagle Eyes give me a call and we can knock them out no problem/no charge. I'm still local for the time being.

Hey I never filled you in! I got way busy and forgot until literally just now...

I got my GPS and Footwell lights hard wired in! Thanks for the help!

As for the eagle eyes, I will probably be considering them later down the road. It's all a game of $$ haha.
