Not a ZL1...

But still an LSA!

Since I sold my Camaro, I've been kicking around ideas on what car to buy. I wanted a C6Z, but knew where that would take me. Chasing HP and ETs...

I also wanted a nice highway sedan, since I have a beach place about 3 hours away. And of course, it had to have an LS in it. So I picked up this CTS-V.

I made a huge mistake by purchasing the car out of of state. It was riddled will problems. I've spent the last couple months fixing everything, but it's finally starting to become enjoyable. It has some mods already, but I dont know how much of the LSA from the CTS V applies to the ZL1. It has a 2.55 upper, longtube headers, 3 inch exhaust that connects to the stock mufflers. Exhaust cutouts in the stock piping right before the mufflers. HX, under hood expansion tank, around 1000cc injector, Airaid Intake.

It's making around 12.5#s of boost and is pretty fun. Are there any major differences from the ZL1 lsa and the V's?

The only difference i believe, is the fuel pump. The V has a dual pump as the zl1 only gets 1 pump in the basket. The 2 lids are also different zl1 has the better lid. But i read you have to mill it down some to fit the caddy. Nice car by the way.

So as far as longblock capabilities, what is good Maximum Hp range for these in stock form? Obviously there are a ton of variables, but the LS3 seems to be solid upto 750-800whp.

Is it common to see a ZL1 with stock bottom end making 800?

850-900 max. But there are people that push it to over 900 with a 2650 or procharger. I believe you’re on borrowed time above 850 hp.

Thanks. I’m not going crazy on this one. I’d like to be able to run high 10s and keep it completely streetable. Its going to get alot of highway miles. So reliability is a priority.

Any suggestions on a Mod plan?

Yeah, keep it just like it is. I'd look over the tune if needed any touchup and keep it just like it is now. It's already upgraded to fast enuf. Or just get that ZO6.
Oh, and nice car. I was looking to get a CTS-V but prices aren't cheap.

Rod's and the Brick, that's why the Z has more HP..

Look to see if the isolator has been upgraded to a solid unit. Maybe put a 10 or 18 percent lower pulley and a tune. My zl1 is very streetable at 750hp

Its got a reinforced brick already. I was thinking about doing a 9.10 lower, but do i need an ATI balancer first? Im guessing its making like 550 now. Im street tuning it now

Blower has 20k miles on the rebuild. It may have the solid isolator, not sure. Id like the ZL1 lid but hear its not worth much power.

The only reason the zl1 make more factory horsepower is from the lid. Thats the only difference between the two. For what a zl1 lid and brick are going for now, its defiantly not worth the cost. Check out fastnuf for sale ad, he had a 10% lower for sale. Its a dayco balancer and pulley. I run the same one just with a 22% lower instead.

Below the lid the CTS-V and ZL1 uses an identical LSA engine.

Given the mods you already have, I'd say that figuring out where you want to stop HP wise is your first move.
I'd prioritize the fuel system- check out the ALM hat and pump assembly, or something similar. Oh- get a catch can.
With that sorted, you could do a X-Port and 103TB. Between those and E85 you'd have a really fun package without opening up the engine.
With that, you'd likely see 600RWHP on 93 and likely 650ish on E.

Beyond that, ported heads and a cam will add a solid 100ish HP but obviously that is a big increase in cost/time/labor.
