Striking at the heart of GM

This is scary.

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama asserted unprecedented government control over the auto industry Monday, bluntly rejecting turnaround plans by General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC, demanding fresh concessions for long-term federal aid and raising the possibility of quick bankruptcy for either ailing auto giant.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29944834/

“I am absolutely committed to working with Congress and the auto companies to meet one goal: The United States of America will lead the world in building the next generation of clean cars,” Obama said

We are all witnessing the exponential expansion of a sick government and the end of the United States as a super power. It is absolutely astonishing how fast this is happening, and how little we all give a sh!t.

And we have a forum closing threads left and right when anyone talk about the obvious when it is the most important thing to talk about..

Oh, that all started about 8 years ago when we started borrowing money from China by the boatload...mostly to fund no-bid contracts. They're using the billions in interest we pay them to...guess what...build a massive Pacific Fleet that now rivals our own. Not cool. Very not cool.

If we lose our manufacturing infrastructure, especially those like GM, we're sitting ducks. When WWII hit our shores, places like GM shifted to bomber and transport construction. My grandfather, too old to go to war, built electrical systems for aircraft back then. God forbid we need to do that again, but with things as they are, we may. I'm glad the administration is doing something to keep our manufacturing from going under completely.

I think as long as we stick to the issue(government intervention into our beloved auto industry) and not make personal attacks toward each other or that bozo in the oval office, we'll be ok.

Hope I get my Camaro. Glad I didn't wait.

The Camaro may be fine, but it may be the last of it's kind.

I am tired of our threads being closed because some people cant keep throwing out their political views. Please keep your political opinions confined to appropriate forums. Please dont ruin this great forum for the rest of us.

Thank you

I don't understand why you feel that you don't want political views discussed when they are at the heart of the problems the auto industry is facing? I understand it is a rule in place in the forum because during the heated election, a small number of people ruined it for others who can have educated conversations. However I would have handled it differently instead of punishing the larger amount of people in the forum that can talk about politics. If it were me in charge, just create an area in the forum where political talk can be discussed and if people get out of hand, they get barred from being able to post in that created area or thread. Simple as that..That way everyone is happy and it becomes easy to control..

That was my concern, with CAFE standards increasing, last of a dying breed.

My 88 Fiero GT is one of those "last of it's kind" cars. They killed it just when they had it right...independent rear suspension, tight steering, etc. They only made like 3800 GT Manuals.

I plan on getting a 2010 Camaro later this year...and hope it lasts longer than a two-month production run like my Fiero had.

Who dint know he was a socialist. The only reason that GM and Chrysler and in this situation is because they can't borrow money like Ford did before the collapse of the credit market. Ford got 30 billion for a company half the size of GM. GM got about half of that and it's supposed to make it work. Yet AIG and the banks get a blank check with no conditions, Oh that's right their the ones that give big campaign contributions. Now hes going to use this opportunity to push his agenda of econoboxes.
