My Nationals (USBC Open now) team had a similar arrangement. Low man had to buy dinner for the whole team. We had to institute a monetary limit after we rang-up a $400+ bill on one guy...oooooops

Yep.

Shot 711 tonight. (279, 225,207) Thought I had my 300 twice. First game had front 8, 9 spare and the last 3 in the tenth. Third game every ball was solid. Either had strike or 9 spare. Left various single pins so it wasnt an adjustment. Most were either 7, 9, or 10. Like I said before, that damn 300 will come this year!!

Nice! Had my closest call two weeks ago for 288.

Shot 650 Monday in my league. Feels good to be bowling good again. 234-212-204 I think were the scores lol.

Had an awful night last night...501. Couldnt hit the broad side of a barn if I had too. 3 700 weeks in a row, just to come back with a 501. Ouch. Lol! Oh well. Just like everything, have good day, and bad days.

623 I think. My second game killed me. Lanes dried out quickly and it took me too long to change up my approach. But I'll take it. Bringing my average back up slowly.

Nothing wrong with a 623! I really try hard not to blame the lanes or anything, but I think we had a bad rack on the right lane. Its not like I was throwing bad shots, just getting shitty leaves. My second game was a 152, and my game literally strike, open, strike, open all way through. I was leaving pocket 7-10s and every pin in between. Was a frustrating night. 214 average shooting a 501 didnt help the team at all. We got knocked out of first.

The team I'm on isn't any good so I wish I knew what first place felt like. We lost all 7 points.
I shot 241, and then low 17X and lastly and 205 or something. All over the place lol.
There were also two 300 games shot this night. Crazy. I'd come the closest to that point with my 288.

The team Im on is my dad, mom, and a guy we work with. My dad is 200+ bowler, mom is a 185+, and Ryan is 150+. (Hes our handicap!) This is the first time I have been able to bowl with my parents because once I turned 18 and was able to do an adult league, they already had friends they bowled with. I always bowled with their son, and whoever else we could find. 13 years later, I finally get to bowl with them! Lol! We had a guy right next to us bowl a 300. It just pisses me off that I have spent a lot of money working with pro bowlers (Wes Malott, Sean Rash) to get my form, release, control, mental game dialed in. Then I see these guys that just kinda rush to the line, whip their arm around, totally not consistent, throwing 300s. This guy has top spin on his ball for God sakes! My closest game is 299. Stone 9 pin, ball went right by it. Im gonna get it this year, everythings there for me to do it!

I was in leagues in high school and college (78-83); average was 178. My dad had a case full of trophies (IIRC, his average was 265).

I still use my Brunswick ball from 1980. I recently bought a new bag, and I was checking out the balls on bowlersparadise.com. Amazing what they've done with ball technology and the cores. And different coverings for different oil levels on the lanes.

Back in my day, you used one ball with no special core and you dealt with it! /end cane shaking

694 series Monday night. Had matching series with a teammate. We finally won a point and took all 7.

Lol! And thats why 178 was a great average back in the day, now its barely adequate. The balls of today can make anyone look good. Thats why we have different oil patterns now, to level the playing field. Forces you to have more than 1 shot in your arsenal. Its all about versatility now.

I dont think thats a very accurate recall! Haha, not saying it cant be true, but very unlikely, considering pros only carry 230ish avgs.

Great set! I shot 653 last night and my dad shot 663. Loser buys dinner.

I actually think the opposite is true, unless one is bowling in a Sport league where the pattern is set-up differently week-to-week. Or in a region where more challenging patterns are the norm (Wisconsin, for example, so I hear...) Some of the best bowlers on my league (220avg and up) are actually quite one-dimensional in their approach. They play the same line/same hand position/same release regardless of the condition and simply change out balls as needed. Mind you, they deliver the ball VERY consistently and accurately, so I'm not slamming them (kinda jealous actually); but when they run out of balls to try, they are often toast.

Overall scoring has become higher due to generally softer lane conditions and easier-to-hook bowling balls. As participation began to fall off in the late 80s/early 90s, there was definitely an effort to "improve the experience" (I think that was one of the buzz phrases), and frankly the game got easier. Just look at the jump in 300-games that occurred from 1992 to 1994. I believe this was the primary reason for the league drama I encountered a number of posts up. Some folks that never bowled prior to the transformation of the game suddenly thought it was unfair when they couldn't score for shit on a difficult pattern.

You're right. The highest recorded league average is 261.7. However, there have been some amateur tournament averages north of that, so perhaps that's what he meant.

I finally broke my season 700-drought and tossed a 706 last night. Started the second game with a 4-10 split. Missed both pins. Changed balls and line for a 10-bagger, then fluffed the last shot leaving the 10-pin. Won some $, but the team split for the night. We are slowly sliding down the standings having been 7-13 over the last 5 weeks.

615. I dont think I have ever had as many 10 pins as I did last night. I made a 7 board adjustment, (3 one way, 4 the other) and still couldnt carry the damn thing. Oh well, Dad had a 614, so dinner was on him!
