Many will say "drive it hard", but I would go by the Owner's Manual if I were you. You can gun it now and then but no WOT (I think the manual says don't exceed 4K RPM - that includes downshifting) and no Cruise Control for the first 1,500 miles. It will be worth the wait and your car will last many years if properly broken in. Enjoy, and welcome to C5!!!!

Beautiful car, looks great. Take it easy with it for the first few hundred miles and have fun. Break in opinions vary like color choice opinions. Its your car, treat it how you see fit.

And the wheel bearings, and the brakes, and the tires, and the clutch..., just kidding.

Babich9,
The easiest way I've found to follow the break-in procedure without going insane is to stay off of highways whenever reasonable. The manual suggests above most other things to vary engine speed and not cruise...taking the scenic route will help. It'll also help rack up those miles quicker!

From the picture it looks as if your hood is not covered in the matte film, is that true? And if so, did you remove it yourself?

GM says to break it in easy, most camaro5 guys will tell you to do it hard.

I did a middle of the road thing.

I tried not to let it set at the same rpm for too long (no cruise control), didnt do any WOT pulls (well maybe one), and I babied it but not too much.

I am at 25k miles with absolutely no engine problems and my catch can barely catches any oil, and my level is never low, so I know its not using any.

I've only seen a couple of black 1LE's, but none of them have had the hood wrap.

Thanks! That's pretty much what I have been doing. Nothing to hard keeping it below 4k rpm and varying rpms. It's hard to stay off of it. My hood is a flat matte black along with the spoiler. Seems to be paint. No sticker wrap. I was worried about that
