Made by GM...Surprised?

By now most ave you have seen the new GM commercials with the tag line "made by GM...Surprised?"
You know... they show the car and list a few of it's accomplishments and then say... it is made by GM, and that you should be or might be surprised! They imply that if it is not a piece of crap, that you will somehow be surprised that it is made by GM, as if all they make is garbage.
Well I dont know who there marketing people are but this is not the marketing strategy that is best for them!
Now lets talk about that... Your thoughts?

I too think is an odd marketing "strategy"

But hell, it is GM. They are not known for brilliance.

Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

I too think they are positive commercials...start out showing their competition and then lead into a model made by GM...and I think the average American would be surprised to know it's GM!

Now on here...yeah we all know GM but you'd be surprised how many Americans hate the Big 3!

I agree that many people have that misconception, and I know the commercail you are talking about.

Why don't they just the fact that this AMERICAN car gets better gas milage than all of the imports in that class, and that now is the time to keep it in the family so to speak! They need the whole american flag blowing in the back ground and focus on the American aspect of th car! Americans need to keep working! Maybe through some good old CCR or John Cougar Melloncamp music in there...You get the idea!

I would have to agree with you, I like the commercials and I think they will help to educate today's average consumer that knows nothing more than the years of pounding on the Detroit 3 by auto magazines and newspapers, etc.

i think its has alot to do with hp and mpg. people think that european cars like bmw are known for the power and hondas and toyotas are the gas sippers. i guess they are just trying to bring back american consumer money back to america. i dont mind that.

i don't know when this hatred of american cars started but i bet it has a lot to do with government regulations destroying american ingenuity and limiting innovation

it probably also was probably the hippies after nam....then you have all these whiny snooty elitists who write about the "superior" socialist (cough cough) culture of europe and japan and these guys make up a lot of academia and the media so there you go

They compared a G8 to a BMW 5 Series...pointing out the G8 gets one more mile per gallon. Sigh. Might as well just burn all the loan money.

The point was it is faster and still gets slightly better mileage.

I think that the commercials are informative and convey the points that the general public is interested in (for the time being). However they could have done without the "surprised?" tag at then end. It's as if they're trying to target both those that are on the fence about buying GM cars and the decidedly anti-GM consumers in one message.

My 2 cents.
