Borla Atak vs S-type with LT headers
I'm thinking about converting my Borla Atak axle-back exhaust for the S-Type now that I've installed my LT headers and high-flow cats. The Atak is awesome without headers but a bit much with them. I'm reading that the S-type has the dreaded "drone". I do not have any drone right now and I already have a custom tune from Jannetty turning off the AFM.
Any recommendations? Thanks guys! |

I recently went from ATAK to S-type because I deleted my cats for the nitrous. Atak was obnoxious with LT's and no cats. Lol! The S-type sounds great! But, it does have drone, the Atak did not have any. I will live with it though.

That's odd about the Borla S-Type having drone because no-drone is supposedly one of their big selling points.

First of all, almost all of the borla systems will have drone...it has been pretty well documented on here that you can expect drone with both the S-type and ATAK exhausts...
That being said the drone is pretty minimal and def reduces a bit overtime. I am running kooks 1 7/8 LTs with cats, and I have the borla s-type axle back and it is f-ing awesome. It sounds great on start-up, not too loud but definitely deeper and noticeable. Nice low rumble when cruising around and as soon as you go above 4000 rpm it starts to scream. I love the way my car sounds and even with a little bit of drone at about 1800 rpms in 5th-6th gear, it still sounds sweet. I would definitely recommend the s-type and if I can get some help I will post a video showing the sound on start up...it makes me happy. |

Then again I am half deaf so there could still be drone that I'm not hearing myself. Either way it shouldn't be anything bad(which of course could be different from person to person as to what to consider "bad"). |

Thanks guys! I apprecaite the advice and heads up. If the Atak system has drone, I certianly can't hear it. I had major issues with drone on my Charger R/T but I never had a tuner to shut off the 4-cylinder mode either. That one drove me NUTS!!! I'm guessing that even "IF" the S-type has a little drone, I can probably live with it. Sounds like I should order one up and see what I think. Just need to find someone that will give me a few bucks for my Atak axle-back system. I really hate to sell it, but the LT headers just make it too much. My wife just shakes her head. HA!!!

I think you will be happy with the S-type for sure! It's nice and deep. Mine may drone a bit more because i don't have cats. You shouldn't have an issue unloading either kit which ever one you decide to keep. I sold my ATAK quickly on here.

No, I went right from stock to the S-type...but I have heard several reasonable sound clips of the ATAK...and it definitely sounds badass.
Sounds even crazier with headers but you have to be willing with it being ridiculously loud. My borla S-type had drone with stock headers and has drone with aftermarket LTs...but by no means is it bad...its just a noticeable humming at around 1800 RPM...and seems to be the most prominent in 6th gear.

not bad but it is definitely there...and at times can get annoying but again it is only in the range of about 1800 RPMS so it is pretty easily avoidable.

I will send you a link shortly. I had a buddy of mine video tape the start up on my car with headers and borla s-type axle back...so it should be pretty identical to your potential setup (assuming you have the LS3 ) Will post shortly.

On my 2012 SS I had the ARH long tube headers with hi flow cats and the Borla S exhaust. Drone was very noticeable. I traded up to a ZL1.No drone. It's night and day. Regards, Peter

so the video quality/sound quality is not great, it was done on my Iphone. And unfortunately it is not a true cold start as the car only sat for about 20 minutes before i turned it on again.
Definitely louder on a cold start. Also could not rev too loud as people in my apt complex were having a picnic like right in front of my car...didnt want to be too much of a dick. http://youtu.be/QOmibaIHBxw
