lid or cutout?

Which would you suggest next. I have a 99 ls1 with free ram air, de-baffled STOCK air lid, no cats, Flowmaster Super 40 muffler. Which should I spend money on next, lid or cutout?

Thanks.

Since you have "gutted" the stock lid, I'm not sure what gain there is in a lid.

"cut-out" - not sure exactly what you're referring to.

Have you considered putting the money towards headers?

Well, the main reason I said Lid is to get rid of the factory one with the ugly ass black boxy looking things right behind and on each side of it. I geuss that would be more of an appaerance(sp?) mod now, since I cut the baffles off of the stock one.

LOL on cut-out!

Havent really thought about headers. I've just got a couple hundred dollars that I have set back to put towards my car and it is burning a hole in my pocket. Geuss I should just save a few hundred more and look into headers.

Thanks for the response!

Is your car manual?

One of the mods I enjoy the most on my SS is the PRO 5.O.

I know what you mean about the factory lid. My first mod was to change mine.

a lid would help but a cut out sounds flippin badass. i had both...if you have a couple hundred bucks to blow look on ebay for a good (not knock off) lid and a cut out shouldn't be more that $30-$40 for a manual cutout.

you could also do:
coolant bypass (next to free)
shave your throtle body bump stop (free)
egr mod (free)
the list goes on and on...

here are some links that might help. they helped me when i had my '01 z28

"cutout" I thought I knew what you were referring to.

I looked it up, and sure enough, I found clips of cutouts. They were what I thought they were.

I'm sure the sound on u-tube isn't as good as in person, but based on what I heard, my set-up w/o cutouts seems almost as loud.

You have a very very nice and clean engine bay. I'm jealous!

my personal opinion? im touched....

actually if it were me, id get a manual cutout for cheap somewhere, then do a set of headers, then an electric gate for the cutout.

I was actually leaning towards the cutout. But I was also thinking cutout vs cutting off my muffler agian right after the rear axle. Tough choice, for me anyways. Only downside to just ditching the muffler completely is always having to be aware of cops around while I'm driving. :(

id say dont cut off your muffler. because ive done it before

and while its so loud that its annoyingly cool for a while, it fades a way and the car starts to sound like a junked out old pickup truck imo. now depending on what your overall plans are for the car, you could hold off for now and swap the entire exhaust out, or if you are going to go with a cutout I recommend getting an electric motor for it as well so with the flip of a switch, you are roaring down the road and another flick and you are sneaking by the po-po's

^^ If I were to get a cutout it would definiately(sp?) be electric. I'm to damn lazy to crawl under my car everytime I want it loud. Plus, like you mentioned, I could close it with the flick of a switch whenever I come up on a cop.

I think tommorow I'm going to go to a few local speed shops and see if they have any cutouts in stock.

well, depending on how you want to look at it, all cutouts are/can be manual cutouts, you can do like me and get a cutout for cheap like I did and come across a NIB electric motor 3 months later for cheap and then install them.
