Depends on the car and the place. My Camaro isn't overly loud even with the MRT v2 and quad tips. Now, my Dart is another story; it's loud all the time. I get lots of compliments on the way it sounds and I've only had the cops called on me a few times (Drove it home with open headers). I never feel bad about starting up any of my cars but if I will wait if I feel like I need to.

I pay a lot of attention to whomever, or whatever, is around me when I start the car. Don't want to scare anyone, or anything, of course.

First thing in the morning, around 0630, I am diligent about being as quiet as possible. One of my neighbors gets home about an hour before, and has just drifted off. His bedroom's the far side of his house from my drive way. So, generally not an issue.

Mostly, I just don't want to bother my neighbors, and deliberately bought a car with NPP to limit that. So, actual start up is loud, but immediately goes as quiet as is mechanically possible.

I've had folks become startled before, when I'm out, getting gas, whatever. So, I tend to wait if someone is real close to the car.

There are some circumstances, generally around someone who'll be appreciative, where I wait til they're closer too. There was a day this weekend where I definitely startled a guy walking across the parking lot, but his response was a smile and a thumbs up.

Yes that's what it was considered it even had it on the application. Needless to say it was full of assholes that lived there and old people who drove Prius, Volts, Corollas, and Fiats! It sucked.

Honestly, living there was opposite from upscale more like uptight.

I made a little girl cry in a parking complex. Didn't know she was back there. Completely stock but sound was pretty loud since it bounced from the ceiling, ground and floor. Sorry little girl.

Nope, but this is why we had to order to avoid getting the NPP. When it needs to flow more to accommodate the increased power, then I get loud exhaust. If not, I think it is a huge waste, and pretty stupid, but that's just me.

Must be a lot of 20 and 30 something' here to worry about loud exhaust. Heck back in the 60's through 90's, loud exhaust were the norm.

I live in a neighborhood with a lot of classic muscle cars and a few newer ones. My tenant has a truck that rivals my exhaust. So, no... neighbors are used to it. Out in the wild, nah... city living means lots of noises.

I've asked all my neighbors if me starting my car bothers them, luckily they've all said they're ok with it.

But like you seem to be, i'm considerate to others. If someone is on their cell phone around my car i let them know it's going to be loud. if someone is walking nearly behind my car i wait until they're a decent distance.

one time... at work... in the parking structure... our Vice President of Finance department happened to be in my blind spot, so when i did my checks i didn't see her. As soon as i started it up she was right behind me. scared her half to death, she dropped everything and jumped like 10 feet back.

We laugh about it today, but i felt bad ha

another time, a girl was parked next to me in a bmw with her window cracked just a little for fresh air, i tried to waive and get her attention and call out to her.. she rolled her window up and turned. so i figured she heard me.. i started it up and she dropped her drink on her in her car. I didn't feel that bad on this one since i tried and she ignored.

Well if your car is beating Hellcats in the 1/4 mile then yeah I can see why you'd be extra considerate

Nice dude, really nice.

I don't have my Camaro...yet.

However when I do this is going to be a concern of mine. I live out in the country, and will continue to live out from the cities, but I work in an office with a parking lot full of cars. It's part of the reason I am looking into deep, but mellow, exhausts and if I ever do get a stroker motor built I'd want to spec out the cam with a nice, wide LSA to keep the chop and lope down.
