Looking at it, you could probably use the existing H-pipe for the headers, I'm not 100% sure if it would mesh up with the exhaust, but I think it might. You actually have to use the stock clamps to mesh the cats to the aftermarket x-pipe. And if you decided to use the stock H-pipe it might require some cutting (I didn't measure any of the stock components, sorry).

One thing to look out for with kooks though is DOUBLE CHECK what they send you BEFORE install. I found out 2 hours into my install that Kooks never sent me nuts for my cat bolts. Luckily the garage I was working in had a few extras.

I was hoping to install my 1 7/8" Kooks at home in the garage, but I don't think my jack or jack stands will get the car high enough. :( I might have to let my local LSx shop do this. I will need a tune anyway.

unbolting the steering shaft, what's involved in this and did you use any locktite when hooking it back up?

You take the pinch bolt out. Then push the shaft up and off to the side. Getting mine back on was a pain. It wouldn't go back over the shaft. I finally figured out to screw a small sheet metal screw into the crack. This opened it up enough to get it back over the shaft.

If yours won't go back on because the crack closed up. Try the small screw trick, it will spread it back open.

I used blue loctite.

Thanks.

Is there any way I can mess up hooking that part back up? That's a pretty important thing...

So the OEM exhaust has 4 converters (2+2).
So is 2 high-flow converters enough (1+1) or do I need to add 2 more to get same result?

Can you screw up hooking the steering wheel column back up? I think I got it put back together OK but it is concerning.

I am doing this install, just the short system though. No problem disconnecting the steering shaft, once I got it off it was obvious that it only goes on one way. I know I was concerned about this part of the install too, however there really is nothing to worry about guys. Remove the bolt and compress the shaft toward the firewall and out of the way. Then remove the OEM exhaust manifold and install the header, I had no problem sliding the u-joint back over the lower steering shaft.
Thanks Nine Ball for the DIY thread, can't wait to fire this thing up. Good luck all with your installs.

Chris
