Paint chips near your gills.

Has anyone else noticed really bad paint chipping below and near your side gills? I was waxing my car this weekend and noticed I had at least a dozen on each side... UGH!
This paint and clearcoat are super thin!

I've been really worried about this since I got the car cos the hips stick out on this car a lot, awesome but a real magnet for chips. Last time I looked I so none on my car and I am installing matt black gills on them for looks and for that little bit of protection to the paint.

Yes I agree, the paint is very light on these cars.

Yeah, of course. I have 3 on each side. That's what we get when we actually drive our car. Sorry, but it comes with time. You're cars condition will consistently go down as you drive it, unless most of it's time is spent in the garage or....if you drive it, your good at doing paint correction to keep it looking new.

I had my car's paint perfect for 1 week after buffing for at least 2 days, then.....when i drove the car, a swirl here or there. Stuck in traffic behind 18 wheelers, dump trucks. Unavoidable. If you want the car to stay in it's current condition, park it...........FOREVER. LOL.

What you all should keep in mind regarding these "rock chips" in the paint is that 90% of these small chips we get in the gills and front bumper front daily driving are totally INVISIBLE to other drivers. Thats the good part. No one else can see it driving on the road. The only way others will see it is if your parked and they get like face level with your cars paint and then know where to look to point them out. Overall, though we may have rock chips, this doesn't take away from the overall beauty and design of the car. I've learn to deal with it.

I have noticed this too and brought it up with the dealer. They pretty much said too bad. The chips on mine aren't too noticable on my rally yellow color, but I noticed it on someones imperial blue and they stood out bad. Not fun but like someone said above that's what we get for actually driving our car.

You can install the colour matching splash guards to protect your rocker panels and gills. I was reluctant to do this, thought it would ruin the looks but after seeing some pics on here you don't really notice them. Those who have installed them swear by them. I've got a couple chips already, but I'm going to install. $177 bucks ain't too bad.
The paint on these cars isn't very durable apparently due to new environmental standards. Same complaint no matter what the make of car these days.
The chips I have I have filled with factory touch up and used the Langka system to remove the paint bubble. It actually looks pretty descent, as good as I have found. And ya, if you drive her she's gonna get some wear and tear!!!

I thought I'd get to post this subject first this morning.

Same here, I washed, waxed this weekend and was surprised to see the chips. 1800 miles and I have several on each side.

The paint is the same mil thickness, hardness, supplier.... as millions of other cars on the road. The difference is the bulging rear quarters and sticky wide tires that throw everything. Design was chosen over functionality. The best solution is the clear bra material stuck over that area. I can't believe they don't put that on from the factory.

My 09 Silverado has a clear paint protection patch over the leading edge of the rear fender bulge. You would have thunk someone would have followed this best practice for other vehicles.

Clear bra that area. Problem solved

It has more to do with the design of the car than the paint though...

I am curious about the clear bra. Wouldn't it peel off after a while? Would I also have to reinstall it in a few years, because of wear and tear on that? I am also wondering if because of the bra, the uniformity of the shade will be different now. As the non covered part of the car to the rest of the uncovered part of the car.

Shouldn't if it is put on right. Should have no effect on paint uniformity.
If it peels off, you put a new piece on.
