Zl1 vs Shelby

Idk if everyone has already seen this article or not but they put the Zl1 and the Shelby head to head and the Zl1 came out on top in the end even tho the 0 to 60 and 1/4 mile times were slower. The 1/4 times for the Zl1 are kinda sad to me but the car wasn't built for that. Here is the article for anyone who hasn't seen it. http://www.insideline.com/chevrolet/...ison-test.html

Just goes to show, numbers don't tell the whole story!!
After a certain amount of horse power it's no longer who has the most but how you put it to the ground!!

Sorry, but that's just a sad time for the ZL1. The guy in the post above is running better, and just has bolt ons. I'd be REAL disappointed if I dropped that kind of coin on a car, and that's all it could pull off. Yes, it's sexy as hell, but I would choose the Shelby for sure.

I think that's a fair judgement. Taken car on car for the average buyer in this segment it probably is. If you are an out and out performance nut you could probably flip a coin. Track star? Either, but the ZL1 would make for an easy day. Strip? GT500, but it wouldn't take much to make the ZL1 keep up. 2 winning cars here IMHO.

How can you say that when the GT500 was only 4/10ths faster to 60 with 100Hp more and 200lbs less and $7k more?

I think with randy behind the wheel he will get good times out of the shelby but he is an excellent driver. I feel like the GT500 should rival the lap times with a good driver just be a bit more of a handful at the limit. the slalom and skid pad don't show the strait away speed advantage the GT500 has.

Add a bit of power to the ZL1 though I think the margin of lap time will go back ot the ZL1 though where the shelby might stay closer to the same.

this video illustrated why I ordered the ZL1. on my last mustang I spend just as much money on suspension as I did power. on the ZL1 I will just need to add a bit of power I think the suspention will be good to go stock for me.

I agree it is kind of about perspective. For me I am going to be 54k out the door for me ZL1. add some power mods upper pully, heat exchanger, cai, tune and I feel for about 57k I will have a car that just does everything better (other than gas milage) for 4.5k less than the 61,450 the PP/TP car GT500 would cost.

the ford camp will argue waranty claim but they don't waranty at the track anyway to begin with so there is a perspective there as well. even if I bought a PP/TP car and went to PIR for a track day I would have no waranty there.

I don't agree with a lot of your stuff, but I think this is probably spot on. I will echo what others have said too...and I think it is quite safe to say...that the ZL1 will be easier to drive as it approaches its limits than the GT500 will as it approaches the same.
