I need to re-paint my hood insert. The prior vinyl wrap mess up the paint underneath it. The Zl1 is Ashen Grey and I am considering painting the insert Gloss Black. I just want to know everyone thoughts.

Repaint Ashen Grey or Gloss Black.

Yes sir, the gloss black would look great.. Wait, I thought the hood insert on a ZL1 was carbon fiber!!

All of the 2012-2015 (and 2017-2024) ZL1 hood inserts are made of carbon fiber but come in different finishes.

2012 only: Standard was Matte Black; Optional finish was "Exposed" carbon fiber.

2013-2015: Standard was Ashen Gray Metallic; Optional finish was "Exposed" carbon fiber.

2017-2024: Standard is Carbon Flash Metallic Black; Optional finish is "Exposed" carbon fiber.

When my car was repainted, I opted for Blue Ray Metallic:

Wow I thought something happened to mine and was replaced with an ashen gray metallic one

I don't know if it were still the case in the later years but in the early years they were having trouble making enough that passed QC for visual appearance. Those that failed that were put on painted cars.
