One of my Super Bowl party guests and I were watching the game, and the lights go out. He instantly had a theory.

Baltimore was slaughtering the 49ers, and the ratings had to be plummeting. Someone at the network pulled the plug. Here's how he said the conspiracy would play out:

The first half would play out fairly.
Because one team was going to dominate the other team, someone had to put the ball in the other team's court. Something must go wrong.
The lights are cut off so that Baltimore goes cold. San Francisco has been playing cold all game anyway, so this helps them get themselves together and plan.
A few intentionally missed passes or dropped balls ought to keep the game even enough to keep people watching.
Since Baltimore is clearly the superior team, they'll still win so no one cries foul.

This is my buddy's Super Bowl conspiracy theory. I do not take credit for this. Discuss.

Interesting theory, and to be honest I thought something eerily close for about 1 minute. However to pull that off would takes lots of help from lots of people. One would eventually get drunk and leak it. That would kill the Super Bowl in the future as credible, so I can't believe that happened.

Next I thought hackers. Well the news came out this AM that the SCADA system at Entergy read an anomaly and shut down the grid like it was supposed to. This screams either faulty systems or hacking. The Wall Street Journal brought that theory forward this morning. They said China or Iran. I work in IT security (specifically around Electric Grid critical infrastructure), and this theory is much more plausible.

I was imagining an Oceans Eleven thing, they were stealing the money on hold for the concessions, had to be over a million. Or they were stealing some of the priceless memorabilia

I would like to say it was total Justice that there was a holding call on the 4th down and they lost the game.

When the Falcons lost because White was getting mugged in the same position, Jim was not only all right with winning the game on a non call, he stated something along the lines, he was glad the ref's let them play the game.....

Well Jim...how do you like the Ref's letting them play the game now?
