The Lansing plant will be closed for 2 weeks right ?
If so I was thinking why the plant will be closed down for 2 weeks during holidays ? I mean I work in retail and we sure do work during holidays n we r ok with that ! A week is ok to be off but 2 weeks DAMNNN, anyways just a thought. |

I think it's 10 days 12/24-1/3, and it's part of the UAW contract. Happy Holiday's!!!

Exactly. I mean, back when the shit hit the fan and all these companies failed left and right, it was the unions like GM that got the huge bailout cash. Those guys have it made.

Sounds like some here have never worked in a plant like Lansing.
These people have earned there holiday and the ability to spend some quality time with there family and friends. It's a long haul until Memorial day weekend. The guys and gals will be back after the New Year and ready to build all of us some high Quality Camaros. |

You make it sound like they don't get vacation or personal days. These guys make more money and have more benefits than most seasoned techs do. They are part of the reason the damn cars cost so much along with the Japanese and German competition. My family owned company must stay open to service our customer's needs which are many or we would lose them as customers.

Yep...Automotive field here...I'm off starting December 23rd and report back January 4th.
It's been like this for me, every year, since I started in 1993. Maintenance always works and gets the plant ready for the New Year production run, then we have another mid year 4th of July, 2 week shutdown. |

I take that same time off every year since my start full time in '84. Of course it's using my vacation days.

These are manufacturing facilities that are absolutley enormous and employ thousands of people.
When do you think they have time to do maintenance? On Sunday Afternoon? This has nothing to do with unions. Or deserving family time....don't we all. It's the best time to shut everything down, inspect, clean, recalibrate and do preventitve maintenance. Even something simple like painting the floor would disrupt production if done on the weekend. |

....Probably would be a good time to focus on the QC backlog without any distractions...
Maybe new production might be shut down, but I would hope they would use the opportunity to get caught up on cars stuck in the QC audit.... |

UAW's work hard and deserve the break....
Giving some good time off to spend with the family during Xmas is a good thing. I realize people want their new cars but there are some more important things in life than your new car.....

I am generally not on the side of unions, but for Pete's sake, everyone should get 2 weeks off to be with family during the holidays.

I understand the shut down for maintenance or re-tooling, but I have no sympathy for the union guys. Big bunch of cry babies for the most part. I've dealt with many big union organizations and there's some silly shit going on at every turn. I don't think it's a good idea for us to get into a battle about this here on the forum.
