I haven't had this problem - I did have a crackling problem getting towards the end of each song though which is weird. I found that consistently, every time this happened, the USB side of the cable was loose from the socket in the car. I pushed it back in and it worked fine. You might want to check that out.

I have now had both the loud pop & the sudden static. Hope coedman 71 & his group find us a fix soon. I suspect more folks may be having the problem than the posts here suggest. Like I said before, some pops were so loud I thought something happened to my car or something hitting it.

I get it with my iPhone, sometimes starts out a few pops then, constant like a gieger counter. Seem to be worse on my trips down ks turnpike in the middle of know where with the exception of some nearby cell towers. It doesn't do it listening over Bluetooth.

Mine does it too. Also when you turn the knob o change channels it makes a static sound and pops. I have an iPhone 3gs. Also sometimes it doesn't recognize when you plug up the iPhone. I sometimes have to unplug and replug it several times to get it to recognize it

I get the crackling noise as well, but I simply unplug/replug and no more noise. only happened twice in the 3 weeks of ownership.

Just had it happen to me this weekend. I reseated the iPod and noticed the cable has a problem with the plastic casing right at the base of the plug for the iPod (seems to be a common problem I think every official Apple cable for our iPods and iPhones have done this). Not sure if that was the issue but no noise since reseating and adjusting the cable and usb plug-in.

Subscribed to this thread. Of course, my Nano causes the same thing and it is quite frustrating.
This must be some kind of connection issue with either the USB cord or the port, as this does not happen when I plug the unit into auxiliary speakers.

My wife and I have identical Ipod Nano 4GB models. Hers will develop static after 30 mins or so of playing, mine generally doesn't have static--we use the same USB cable. I'm pretty sure my music files are downloaded with the highest sampling rate possible, hers has a lower sampling rate. Maybe the quality of the file is causing the static? Maybe replacing the standard USB cable with a shielded would help?

Ipod Nano 4th generation. Static starts and increases, no popping. Unplug, then plug back in to stop it. It does not return after plugging it back in. It does usually do it at least once on a trip. Using Mac provided cable.

My iPhone 3Gs did it too and I notice that I get a message about the device not being optimized to work with the car so I think maybe a software upgrade might fix it. I'm going to check into it and post again.
