Oil to top of motor
I'm sure some one has a good explanation for this but I figured I would ask. Has anyone paid attention to how long it takes oil to get to the rocker arm upon start-up? I was shocked that it took 2 1/2 minutes to see anything trickle out of the back of the rocker. Even after the oil was flowing it was not near the volume of any SBC that I have run. Is this normal?
This is a head/cam 2012 ls3 car with stock oil pump.

I haven't done a LS rebuild. Isn't there a way to prime? Or are you saying this is just taking the valve cover off and checking on a motor that was running fine? I'd be freaking out after 20-30 seconds. Heck some of my coworkers are 1 mile down the road 2 minutes after they hit the start button.

I'm not referring to a new build, I'm talking about every day activity. The 2 1/2 min was from sitting over night and first start in the am. However, even with the car sitting for a half hour or so with the motor off it still took almost 2 min for oil to get to the rocker. You would be shocked.

Haven't heard how long it typically takes but that's why I let it idle for about 5 minutes to make sure the oil is moving before I start driving.

I think most of us let it idle for a bit before driving but either way no oil is no oil at idle or not.... Just looking for others that have dealt with the same issue or have seen the same thing.
Makes you wonder.
