Thanks. My 67 is sweet , but it has real raw hp under the hood the old fashioned way. What I read about the LS 1 is that you should us regular oil for the break-in up to 1500 miles so that every thing wears in correctly and the rings seal up tight, then go to synthetic oil. The manual says I have synthetic oil frm the factory. I' m ready to dump it now and use conventional oil to 1500. Apparently synthetic oil does not aid wear-in very well at the beginning when wear-in is most important. Make sense?

Royal Purple break in oil before the car leaves the lot with a filter magnet. Switching back to Mobil 1 after 500 miles.

Here is the thing. GM has a vested interest in ensuring that you break in your car in the best possible way. They have given the car a 5 yr / 100,000 mile warranty. This makes me trust that what they say has more merit than some guy with a slick nickname on a message board. As soon as someone is willing to provide a warranty for their procedure I will consider following it.

The LS3 in the Corvette comes with Mobil 1 in it from the factory. Seems like that means it is fine from day 1.

Appreciate the input on the LS 3. I bought the 2SS LS3 inferno.I want the engine to run the fastest it can and that means good wear in for sealing. I drag raced my 67 from 1967 to 75. I drove in to school and even round trips from Kansas to Tx. My best times with the BBChevy were 10.90's in the quarter and 6.90"s in the eighth. I am glad I quit racing before I cracked the weld seams on the car. It still has the original paint and original deluxe interior. It has been detuned, but I still drive with 12.5 compression, 4 speed, and street dot slicks.

GM wants their engines to be broken in soft because they know if they told people the best way to break in the engine (redlining each gear w/o 100% tps and decelling back down to 2-3k) that way too many people would get it wrong and have issues due to that.
