2010 Camaro for the weekend... Avis rental

This is my first post after watching this board for over a year.

A little background for you... I am 36 yrs old, and have loved the camaro since I saw Better Off Dead in 1985. At the time I was 12 and swore the '67Camaro would be my first car. You know that commercial life comes at your fast... Well thats my life. Here are my cars since the age of 16... 1986 Ford Ranger, 1989 Mustang (4 cyl), 1995 Ford Probe GT, 1998 Blazer (add 1 child), 1995 Plymouth Acclaim (1st work only car & add 2nd child), 1989 Honda Civic, 1990 Honda Accord, 1989 Honda Accord. The Honda streak began when I was commuting 100 miles a day to the Honda plant in Marysville, Ohio.

Fast forward to today... I just called into Avis and decided to rent a Camaro for the weekend. Call it a trial run but its also my 12th anniversary weekend with my beautiful wife. For $200 I get the Camaro from 8am Friday to 8am on Sunday... A few of the highlights I am looking forward to... A Hocking Hills cruise, and a drive in movie. I will have pics and a review on Monday.

Ran to Port Columbus Airport (CMH) to check out the Camaros on the Avis lot. In all, I counted 24 and a mixture of SIM, CGM, Black, but the majority were VR. Figures they had more red. This is Buckeye Country.

I call this shot, into the Lions Den.

I was thinking of doing this but my local avis doesn't have it right now. Besides I figure I might as well save the money for when I put my down payment

I made it into Avis this morning and made a request. I asked if he knew the color yet of my rental, and asked if I could have SIM, or CGM. As he flipped through the rack of keys he said "Red, Red, Red, Red, Red, Red, Orange, and Black." I about flipped. IOM is the color my wife and I love, and would buy if given our choice. I hadn't seen it in the lot so I didn't think it was available. So I told him I had to have the IOM. It is an LS, auto, sunroof with the upgraded 18" painted aluminum wheels.

<br>

Vin number in case any one is interested. It had a whopping 4800 miles on the odometer.

First impression...
WOW. My large 6' 1", 250 pound frame just dropped into the cockpit like a glove. Seats are comfortable, and everything is well within reach. Acceleration is quick and responsive. One the way home I am going to switch to "M" and try at the paddle shifters. The one negative I am going to have to pay attention to are the potential blind spots. With the small back window it may be tough to see cars at my rear corners. Good thing I signed up for the insurance.

Are they giving you any discounts? $200 is a great deal for 2 day rental. The only avis here in Las Vegas that has camaros wants 175 per day for an SS and and 125 for an LT... So I'll have to wait on renting one, but it will be an SS. Have to convince the wife first!

Enjoy the weekend with a new 'Maro

I am actually going to surprise her with it tonight. After 12 years of marriage I have found it easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.

Tonights plan... Pull in the driveway, yell Happy Anniversary, and then pass her the keys.

Have a great weekend. I too fell in love with the Camaro in Better Off Dead. In 1989, we bought an '68 Camaro RS. You will truly enjoy the 2010 Camaro. Take lots of pics and share.

I rented one myself (well my girlfriend did as a surprise for my 09/09/09 birthday) Yeah she surprised me with a 2010 CGM Camaro SS. Ill be posting a thread with pics later tonight.

But hell yeah it was expensive. Came out to $404.00 for two days. And that wasnt including 2 trips to the gas station. But she said it was worth it.
