Took my fathers GT2 TT to homecoming but had to take it back befor the after party ( he knew id be drinking ) Nothing happened,Didnt kill anyone or go over 100Mph. Drove like i would any other car i just liked the idea of showing up in a GT2 not so much the idea of driving like a bat out of hell to homecoming.
How ever me and my father are extreamly close and he has more trust in me than i know what to do with. He trusted me with his Jaguar XKR at 15 with a permit and He trusts me with my 2011 SS at 17, And 5k miles later no acidents, tickets, curbrash just a clean flawless camaro lol. He donsent trust my sister with any of his cars tho, haha Honestly even tho i was in the same boat as you if my (Hypethetical) Daughter asked to use my camaro for homecoming she would get a HELL NO...

I got my camaro my senior year in high school (last year) in April.
Our prom was May 10th. Obviously I drove my camaro to prom, but I also cared for its safety more than my girlfriend would have liked me too. I parked it far away but close to cameras in case something happened, made sure there werent any trees above it, etc. etc. etc. random stuff. As a fellow teen who luckily had the chance, I can EASILY see why your dad wouldn't let you...here we go. 1. How does your dad know you'd take care of it the same way he did? 2. How does he know your boyfriend won't try to pressure you into driving it? Being a guy myself..I know it would kill me to force myself to not ask to drive. 3. Peer pressure. Say you ARE driving. Whats to say this boyfriend won't pressure you into driving like an idiot because he isn't able to? 4. This car is EXTREMELY powerful for kids our age. I'm lucky my dad also has a 2SS and guided me and taught me about the car before I got it. 5. Relating to 3, it doesnt seem like you've driven the car much or at all for the matter. You don't understand how fast this car is (especially a 2SS) until you had experience driving it, HUGE factor. 6. Driving my camaro to school for the 3 months of school I had left was a nightmare. I got harassed, threatened, and people even parked as close to me as possible even though I parked in the back 70+ spaces we have open by myself. Kids are driven by jealousy (especially other guys) when someone has a nice car. You never know what people are willing to do to others possessions. 7. Most important part...post prom. We all go out after prom, parties especially. I'd be lying if I said 90% of the parties after prom DIDNT have alcohol, which is a bad mixture with jealousy and a nice car. If he WERE to let you go with his car, PLEASE bring it back home before going out, thats what I did and felt A LOT safer. /end rant All in all, I don't know you, your boyfriend, your school, or your dad. But all signs point to no. I had time to learn the car, what its capable of, and how to drive it like I stole it (supervised on closed roads etc.) with my dad right there teaching me. Hate to say it but I say no unless you disprove all of my above points. /end rant for real this time |

You're right and those kids are supervised while learning to drive, they wear protective equipment, no worries about some idiot running a red light and t-bone(ing) them. You may not be able to judge a persons driving abilities but the more expirence you have the better off you are. http://www.cdc.gov/Motorvehiclesafet...factsheet.html http://dmv.ca.gov/teenweb/more_btn6/traffic/traffic.htm Again not saying that this girl isn't responsible etc... if it were MY car i'd say no, but since it isn't... OK, Sweetie, I will tell you what you wanna hear....My daughter and her boyfriend took my car to prom last year. If you do a search for "Prom 2010" you may find the pics. They took excellent care of her---not a dent, ding or scratch and it's a choice I do not regret. She said her boyfriend paid more attention to the car than to her and was too busy showing his "buddies" to worry about what was going on inside.....lol But she had a great time.

OK, oldfriend's daughter. I just looked back on my "Prom Nite 2010" thread and your dad plainly stated way back then the answer would be no....sorry. He said something to the fact that he does not "play with the devil". Doesn't sound good for ya, Hunny!!

Nope, sorry! I let my son take my 1997 to prom and it came back on a tow truck. Lesson learned.

I say no as well. My concern would be all the other high schoolers there. Peer pressure is a funny thing you have to respect.

not No. but Hell No. too much car for a young driver. I traded in my 88 IROC when my daughter turned 16 because it was the only car I had and I just couldn't let her drive it. I wish I could have kept it but I really Love my daughter.

No!!! I took a 93 escort gt to my prom( waste of time the prom was) but that was a 130 horsepower car and I acted dumb with it. So imagine the outcome if I would have had a car with 300 more horsepower it wouldn't have been pretty.
But to the OP, get your dad to rent a limo, it will more fun. And I also agree with marofrek |
