The drone you're hearing at 2K is the AFM kicking in and out. It doesn't bother me, but you could tune it out if it really bothers you.

Just curious...what is AFM? I keep hearing that acronym and have no idea what everyone is refering to.

Thanks

Yeah, Active Fuel Management. It shuts down four cylinders as you are cruising along, purportedley for fuel economy reasons. It's annoying as hell, but I'm starting to get used to it. The power (V8) is there when you need it.

It has caused further problems for some that have up-graded their exhaust. This will not keep me from doing the LM II in the very near future.

Since you're going with the LS3/M6 you won't have worry about it. Just Skip Shift.

I experienced the Loud Mouth IIs both ways. With stock system and now with the ARH long tube headers, High flow CATs and X-pipe. Installing the Loud Mouth IIs on the stock system did sound much better but did nothing that I could tell for performance using my butt dyno. The sound was so much better! It did give a slight drone from 1800-2000rpm which is exactly where the engine runs at 65mph in high gear. From 65 to 69mph the drone was very noticeable and I would just drive at 73-75mph to avoid it. I have no drone at all from 73mph and up (about 2200rpm and up). I then installed the ARH set up. The drone is definitely there. Its no big deal really and I dont mind it at all if I am alone but if your trying to carry on a conversation with someone in the 65-69mph range it can be a problem unless I down shift into 5th gear. Its when the engine drops into over drive and into the 1800-2000rpm range that the drone will be evident. When the AFM kicks in it actually decreases the drone on my car! The drone is something I personally dont mind one bit and I think is sort of like listening to music.
(I am weird I know)
If I am driving with people in the car I just drive at 73-75mph and its not an issue.

All in all, This is the system I would pick again if I had the chance to do it all over again because the sound is simply mean and the power increase was very noticeable. After the tune the overall power increase was very surprising.

From what I understand they all have it to some extent except Corsa who claims to hav eno drone. There are a couple othe systems who claim no drone, but I don't remeber....and I think all of the "no drone" systems are cat-backs, I could be wrong on everything I said.

The L99 is going to have that "drone" of the AFM.... I could hear it with the stock system too. With a stock exhaust it's very slight, but so is the rest of the exhaust. I have the loudmouth II and now enjoy hearing my V8, but I do hear the AFM more also. I think it is going to be a personal decision as to what balance you want. the LMII does not affect conversations with passengers or using the phone. My future plans will include a tune w/ no AFM and adding a muffler X-pipe (flowmaster) when I'm ready to cut the warranty loose.

that sounds just awesome! it's not as loud as i thought it'd be inside the cabin....

do you have just the exhaust kit or did you also get the headers to go with it???

also, how much gain in performance did you get?

Of course the longtube headers I'm still wanting but I guess until my warranty is up I will have to wait on that. There is a slight drone at 2,000 rpm i've noticed and I have an A6. I think I'll post a video tomorrow. But its got such a nice deep rumble to it now. Overall, i'm pretty satisfied with this first mod.
I dont think headers will void the warranty

where is the most restriction on the stock exhaust? Some say its the cats and some say the resonator. I want to buy either the slp headers or the slp xpipe. both are kind of expensive.

I heard it could've been the dogs or even the terminators. haha

But I'm pretty sure the cats are the most restrictive part. The resonators are mostly there to quiet the sound.
