Interesting read. Making headers must be more labor intensive than most U.S.-based manufacturing operations. I worked in building products for years. 88% of our cost was in raw materials. A big chunk of the remaining 12% was overhead. Our manufacturing processes were so automated, it takes very few people to operate. We could have paid our factory people $100/hr and you wouldn't even notice in the bottom line.

I think it has more to do with the low volumes of product made. Not enough headers for gen5 Camaros are sold to justify mass production technics, especially considering there are multiple vendors selling headers.
