Speaking as someone who has done this before - I would suggest you cut out the cancer only and replace as little original metal as possible. The car will be stronger and more structurally sound that way. You can grind and smooth out the beads if you desire but it isn't an issue depending on the situation. Some cars need to look amazing when you see the bottom but not all. Use a MIG with gold gas and tiny wire and you will get the best results. I tried a Craftsman welder but sent it back and bought a Miller and never looked back. It is worth the extra bucks.
Hope this helps, -Mark. |

I'm right there with you! I need to replace the passenger rear... I bought a MIG welder awhile ago. I'm am "practicing" on my shifter hole. It is a LOT easier to cut out (repair panel) and get to when welding. It started out ugly, even practicing on scrap. But I think I got it down, now. The rear floorboard will be a challenge cutting for a proper fit. I think I have a good plan, though. Then again, I have been making a TON of excuses about getting to work on them... lol
