I wouldn't buy off on the "we had a deal," as you didn't sign a purchase contract and GM/Dealer can change the deal at any point in time. Case in point, there's another thread on here from Jannety Racing who had a ZL1 cancelled because GM "re-ran their allocation model and the dealer lost a slot." There are other threads where when the car arrived the dealer suddenly added a markup over MSRP. Furthermore, in California they can't, even with the contract, charge you anything until they actually deliver.

With that said, it then comes down to relationship. I've bought numerous brand new Honda sportbikes (94 F2, 95 F3, 01 F4i, 05 1000RR, and finally my '07 Repsol), the local Honda dealer has asked, "Why don't you buy your bikes from me?" And I point out the markup over MSRP and the "dealer assembly fee" of $800-1200 which I've never paid on any bike. Assembly is pretty easy and the bike is mostly complete out of the crate. The funny thing is I did buy one from the dealer that bought them, but from their other store....because they sold it at/below MSRP.

In this case, agree, the dealer blew it. I constantly remind them how much their $xxxx markup costs them in additional revenue. In my case, their $1800 has cost them thousands, and lost allocations because my new vehicle sale goes to another dealer. Yes, I'm only one, but I'm willing to bet I'm not the only one who follows this rationale.

So, I'd say good on ya... I drove 5 hours to save 3-4k on a Honda from a dealer I'd never met back when I lived in Colorado Springs. Fortunately, the Service Manager is usually not associated iwth the Sales Manager so it's water under the bridge after the sale.

What dealers and salesmen fail to realize is you are not there to satisfy their needs, but they are there to satisfy yours. You are the one about to drop $60k on a car, not them. If I were a salesman (again) I would act like I was walking on egg shells with my customers, being as nice and as courteous as I could be. Because I know If I'm going to spend that kind of money on a car, I'm not to worried about where it comes from, as long as it is EXACTLY what I want. Yes if a dealership is crappy I will try to avoid giving them my business, but if they can provide me with what I want at the best price then so be it. However I would of called the other dealer and let them know about the other car and asked if they could beat the deal I was given. If not then oh well.

I think thats what I might have done as well... Called the first dealership and explained that you can buy at MSRP somewhere else and that if they can honor that ...well then they can earn your business. If they tell you that they are unwilling to budge then well... their loss. Leverage is a wonderful thing if you use it correctly. The thing is, even though you wont be taking delivery of that car .. they will most likely be able to hose someone else out of an extra 5k relatively quickly.. so long as its not you. As for the sales guy... there is absolutely no excuse whatsoever for that kind of behavior towards a customer (or anyone else for that matter) --that is a joke.... and he should be repremanded or terminated!!
Enjoy the new Z!

It is insane to buy a car for 5k over MSRP.. When you drive a car off the lot it automatically looses value, when you add 5k more than its worth and drive off the lot you immediately loose a ton of cash. When the new Camaros came out the dealer closest to my house was trying to charge 10k over MSRP and I just laughed and walked away lol.. They seemed like they were insulted and acted like I could never get a better price then what they were offering. Good thing im not a fool.. They tried to charge me around 44k for a 2SS. I ended up getting one from a vendor on Camaro5 with the exact same trim and options for 38k. Some dealers are just greedy.

Is it a growing trend for GM salespeople to call and bitch to potential customers now? Good for the OP to get the car he wanted and not get taken to the bank.

The dealer just screwed himself by his own greed.
Problem is he is going to blame it on you and not himself.
He got what he deserved. To do that to a repeat customer is uncoonscienable.
The dealer that wanted your business got your business.
And he still made good money on the car.

i'd venture a guess that that sales guy is fired. if not, you oughtta call the dealer manager and make it known that due to his ignorance, they lost that sale, and the fleet business.

Regarding post #1: Many of you may recall the thread(s) concerning the idiot dealers of the 2010 Camaro sales. At that point they were being specifically named. Curiosity leads me to ask who your original dealer was and which dealer
provided you with a fair price?
