Camaro Chat 10:30 - 11:00 - Partial
DougHoulihan: Yes, Perelli is the supplier for the 20s
garfin: Can you share projected 0-60 and 1/4 mi. times with us? DougHoulihan: Performance numbers will be released as we get closer to production, but we're very happy with the test results. jdpickering: Back in Aug of 2007 there was a GM press release of a Small-Block v-8 with Direct Injection. The Camaro V-6 is a DI engine is there a reason the DI V-8 wasn't used as well for the Camaro SS could of got more HP and marginal MPG increase? DougHoulihan: It’s a multi-port fuel injection. 24speedzone: on the auto trans package what trans will it be DougHoulihan: For the V6, we have GM's 6L50 six-speed transmission and for the V8, we have the 6L80 six-speed trans. garfin: Will there be an optional suspension available on the V6 car? garfin: Can you please explain what control the driver has over how the traction control/stability control works. DougHoulihan: StabiliTrak stability control system and traction control are standard on all models. Competitive/sport modes for the stability system are offered on the V8 SS models, including launch control on SS models equipped with the six-speed manual transmission. DougHoulihan: You can go into the Driver Information Center (DIC) to activate the competitive sport mode and launch control as well as deactivate all to do some cool burnouts. WendyClark: We have five minutes left - trying to get to your questions - we will follow up with a post to GMNext.com with all the questions we couldn't get to in the time alloted today. DougHoulihan: The V6 and V8 automatics have paddle-shifters on the back side of the steering wheel to allow the customer complete control of their shift points. DougHoulihan: The V6 has dual exhausts with quad catalytic converters and 75 mm "through fascia" exhaust tips. garfin: Why no AFM on the maual transmission V8? DougHoulihan: the AFM is done elecronically as we move from 8 cylinder to 4 cylinder mode or 4 cylinder to 8 cylinder mode. The manual transmission is mechanically in specific gears and does not allow us to electronically change from 4 cylinder to 8 cylinder mode. bryancollins: what does rs stand for? DougHoulihan: Rally Sport. This includes HID headlights with a halo ring, 20-inch 245 front and 275 rear Pirelli tires, rear spoiler, available on V6 and V8 models. WendyClark: Thanks to all of you for your interest today - I know we didn't get to everyones questions....stay tuned to GMNext.com - we have saved all the questions you have asked and will put a post together that answers as many as we can! Thanks - have a great day! DougHoulihan: Thanks everyone for all your interest in the 5th generation Camaro. We are firmly committed to deliver you an outstanding 21st century sports car that will deliver on great styling, outstanding performance and value. This is a moderated chat room. That means that your messages won't appear until a moderator approves it. DougHoulihan: Have a great day! |

I think it's still too early in the game for solid performance numbers, they'll change between now and Feb 09. Preliminary numbers were published yesterday.

Nice to hear there are shift paddles. I’ll still probably get the manual especially since it has more power and launch control. Now if they offered a dual-clutch transmission I’d go for that.

When I hear a statement like this, to me it means they've finally got a rear end that will stand up to the power, LOL. Though I've never had a problem with my 7.5" 10-bolt *knocking on wood* I know of plenty of people who have. I never abused my car though, so that could be a reason too. However, I've pulled some good 60' with only bolt-ons, DRs, and stall, so maybe I've just been lucky. Anyways, it's good to feel like they think they have a pretty durable car since they've made a statement like that
