I had One scare very similar to the Op I wasn't texting but I looked down at the phone and had a Major Pucker Moment but didn't rear end the guy in front of me, the phone stays in tray or cup holder if the car is in motion.

The only wreck I ever caused was rear ending a van who was turning without a blinker when I was extremely sleep deprived, guess when I get someone else to drive?

Seems like there have been a handful of Camaro owners who have caused an accident recently (and gotten ZL1 conversions out of it).

Again -- my fault. I don't disagree.

I've been driving 25 years and never was a fault for an accident. It was a stupid mistake, taking my eyes off the road.
That actually happend to me years ago, I learned from my mistakes. I take in a lot more than just the car in front of me now.

Not on purpose, I wouldn' wish the pain I've had for 8 years on anyone. BTW My screws were loose long before that. Even my commander in the 82nd thought I was a bit off way back in the 70's.

One reason for my post, there has been a trend of late. People have terrible driving habits and then call their actions an accident. I didn't mean to single out the OP here, just hit a nerve.

Accident, fender bender, whatever you want to call it-same thing. If it's not intentional, it's an "accident." If I caused a fender bender, I think I would deal with my shame privately. Nothing proud about it to post to the world. But when I see posts where people are 'rewarded' with ZL1 conversions for causing an accident, something seems wrong with the picture.

I wouldn't call it a reward, there's still a lot of stress involved if not out of the pocket money for the repair / upgrade Otherwise more people would be rear ending cars for a free upgrade and I wouldn't go too hard on them imo it takes some brass ones to own up on a public forum that you majorly screwed up.

Not that anybody cares, but I found the bumper online for $85, but it would need to be painted and installed. Called a place locally and they would do it for $500. Not bad I guess, but I'll keep shopping around.

Saw a black bumper on craigslist for $180, the guy took it off and installed the ZL1 -- but when I called, he had already sold it.

I used to texat and drive a lot, then I started only texting when no one was around and I had cruise control, then I stopped texting, now I put my phone in the center console to keep me from texting haha.

Bluetooth with the car helps alot!

Not to rub it in but as a cop that's why the law is so tough on texting & driving.Even looking away for a moment. The older I get the less I can take my eyes off the road. Be thankful and we all make mistakes if not we'd all be in heaven.

Yeah, I actually thought that it was a prerequisite in order to get the ZL1 conversion... so, I've been driving around texting and TRYING to ram somebody from behind, but my damn reflexes and, yes, my reluctance to slam into another car keeps stopping me from getting that ZL1 conversion. IS there some other way?

This is exactly what I was thinking the entire time I was reading this thread. What about the poor guy in front that got hit? I would be absolutely livid.

A couple of years ago, somebody following me in traffic felt the need to look at their phone. They were a at least a hundred yards beck, so I guess they though it was ok. Well, they didn't count on traffic coming to an unexpected stop. I was fully stopped in my Corvette. They looked up about 50 feet behind me and slammed on the brakes. They still hit me hard enough to shove me into the stopped car in front of me. Their car was destroye. The combination of the collision and their airbag deployment shattered their windshield and showered me with broken glass as my convertible top was down. Fortunately, nobody was hurt, be he did $20,000 damage to my car in addition to totaling his. All of the financial dust still isn't settled after two years. I hope the message on his phone was worth it.

And as for whether this counts as an accident or not, the Merriam Webster Collegiate Dictionary has multiple definitions of accident. One of the, implies and unfortunate and unintended event. Another specifically applies to liability in the case where there is no negligence. The event that started this thread is an accident by the first definition, but not the second.
Actually... even by the first definition it's not really an accident. While unintended obviously, it had nothing at all to do with fortune. I'd call it an accident for the guy who got hit maybe

[QUOTE=DivorcedDaddy18;5891501]Of course the phone has a camera on it. I just went outside my house 5 minutes ago and took the picture. What cell phone doesn't have a camera on it? Is this 1996?

Definition of accident: An unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury.

Dude, take a chill pill. I didn't kill any kids drunk driving. I hit a truck in front of me at 10 mph. Let's keep it in perspective. It was my fault, but nobody died but my wallet.

LOL[/QUO

bahahaha good reply.
