For all those Star Wars fans

Finally completed my 1:1 scale replica of R2D2 yesterday. This has taken me just about 11 months to build. Enjoy.

That's awesome! You should mod your trunk to fit R2 in there when you cruise like they do on the X-wing fighter. People in public would freak.

That is so freakingly Bad Ass it's indescribable. Did you custom machine every piece? Did you have any plans to go from? Where would someone get said plans if so? I would love to do this as well.

Some of it was custom machined by some metal shops, some of it was built from wood. Alot of the parts came from many many trips to the hardware store.

If you are looking to build your own, there is a club for it here: http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/r2builders/ . Most of the blueprints and plans are on there which were obtained through the encyclopedia, measurements of screen used droids and reference photos from the movies. There are so many materials you can use to build one that no 2 are alike. Budget ones can be made from styrene, then you can use wood, or the most expensive are aluminum. Mine is a mixture of Aluminum and Wood.

I wonder if it's covered under home owner's insurance...

Either way, put together a basic blueprint of what you did should you ever want to duplicate the process.

I would make one into a trash can, but that's just me
