Isnt the gt500 only a high 12sec car with 500hp?

Why not buy an 03-04 Cobra and a $60 pulley....they look better and are faster.

gt500 12.4 12.5 mid 12 second car, and yes an 03-04 would be a steal right now for like 21k

you cant push a gt with stock internals to 700hp, cobra's on the other hand are built for it.

Only prob with a Cobra is leaving you axles on the track..literally when you launch to hard with to much power. When I had my 03 Term it was quite a few times I saw guys breaking their IRS out there..snapping the half shafts in two.

I was running 510/490 @ my wheels and I was always afraid to let it rip...because I drove to the track and I wanted to drive home....IRS is great and all...but heh they are not going to hold up like a live axle.

The stock half shafts are quite strong. Shit happens, I've seen fully built 9"'s eat it too.

Heh...yeah thats not going to happen. They say 500RWHP is the limit...450RWHP and under is the safest. Every car is different though. For me I am staying right below the 450 mark. I am not trying to go boom. Besides, its not like you will run into people with 450 on tap everywhere you go.

Yes, they all can go....I had reinforced ones on mines, but still.....you know the weakest link in the cobra's was the IRS...That's why the serious guys snatched it out and used live axles.

They are strong, but its a bad day when you launch and your rear susp is all over the track...on the ground. In one test and tune, I saw 3 guys rip theirs out of the car....not a pretty site by no means.

I just got that issue and liked it a lot. It seemed a lot like their video review but it's just nice to be able to carry it in print.

It'd be cool if GM were to offer a suspension package in the future. For me, obviously biased for Camaro, the two tests that it performed better just don't make me even consider swaying. Sure, it handles really good, and sticks really hard, but even they said it was really hard to upset Camaro (if I remember right...) Regardless, I think it was a pretty good test and nice review.

Challenger SRT8: 4100/425=9.6 lb/hp
Mustang GT: 3550/315=11.3 lb/hp

The mustang is a respectable car, don't get me wrong, but there is no comparison in the power department to the 6.1L SRT8 engine, even in that heavy car. There is a lot more potential with the challenger with the power/weight ratio advantage it has in terms of straightline performance. The Mustang would obviously be better on the track. And BTW, time to distance (0-60) is not a race, who is in front at a given distance is a race, there can be a big difference, especially by the time a 1/4 mile goes by.

This comparison only gets worse for the Mustang when you look at the Camaro.
Camaro SS: 3860/426=9.1 lb/hp

Again, I am not trashing the Mustang, it is well put together, a balanced package, and no doubt a blast to drive. But almost 20% more (peak) power for every pound is something you can feel in every gear, and in my opinion makes the Camaro the better car. I am sure you can feel the extra weight on the Camaro but to me I would rather have the power/weight ratio advantage for that put you back in your seat thrill. It is not like the Camaro doesn't have the brakes/suspension to handle the power in the corners pretty well anyway. I must admit, I doubt it will ever feel as light as the mustang, because it isn't, and that is one of the few compromises they made in my opinion to build this car.

To me the interior is pretty subjective, and for the record I like both the Camaro's and the Mustang's interior, they both have their own originality to them. The Challenger dash/gauges are too plain for the car.

Ray, I think your weight is incorrect. Anyway, the mustang will kill the challenger.

Like my finance teacher said: Things look nice on paper, but making things happen is different.

Those numbers are nice, but why is the smaller engine tearing it up?
