Dealer Mark-Up Gone Wild

Spotted this Z/28 at my local dealer. Over 65% dealer mark-up! Sorry, I can't figure out how to rotate the pic.

I hope John L. Sullivan Chevrolet enjoys eating the floor plan fees for a few months while this vehicle depreciates into a year old car. The only possible explanation is that the dealership owner must want to keep it for himself.

There are many people with more money than sense. I would not be shocked to learn that someone purchased the car.

Wish Chevy would yank their license.

I wouldn't buy floor mats from that dealer.

I thinks the mods need to place this thread under the sticky "Price Gouging Dealers" on the ordering board. That is insane and this dealer should be avoided.

Haha that's a local dealer out here. California dealers are the worst from what I've seen and I work as a vendor for 10 of them out here. Can't disclose which ones for the safety of my work.

Why? It's free market capitalism. Don't like it, don't pay it. If no consumers pay it, the price comes down. In your world you would shut down anyone who charges more than you're willing to pay? I'm glad you aren't in charge.

FWIW, I agree. That is an absolutely ridiculous mark up, and I would never pay it. However, the majority of people always forget that the S in MSRP stand for SUGGESTED. As in this is what GM suggests the car sell for. It's negotiable. If you've always paid MSRP for every car you've ever bought, you might have a point. I bet you probably paid less than MSRP more than once though, am I right?

...Let 'em fish....Somebody may bite....or, look at the hi-priced "bait" and "switch" to a lower priced model...

....Keeping it on the showroom floor for a while with an astronomical price (for now) is probably a smart move to get in foot-traffic that will buy other models anyways...

If the Z/28 sits at that price, fine....It will come down to a sale eventually....the dealer can't lose no matter what it sells for...

I'm not sure about that. I won't shop at a dealer that puts "market adjustments" on their cars. Even if what I'm looking for doesn't have a market adjustment.

Why? If it's a dealer who will charge whatever they can get from you, they will also give you as little as possible. Max Profit. Collect Max Coin, Give Out Minimum product/services. Can you imagine if all businesses ran that way? I'm more Amazon than Timeshare Condo. Amazon may not be the cheapest, but they don't gouge me, and their service is second to none.

I'm too grumpy to haggle, and there are too many sweet cars out there. And next years cars will be even better. I waited 12 years for the 2014 Z/28. I knew it would come. But that doesn't mean I really NEED it.
