I didn't buy mine for the gas mileage, I bought it to have fun in. We average, 20-22mph. which isn't bad at all.

To be honest, I am blown away with my mileage. Clearly didn't buy it for that but the 19+ average is freaking a sweet bonus. My 2014 GMC Sierra is also getting just over 19 MPH and I didn't buy that for fuel economy either. Couldn't be happier with either as both are exceeding my expectations in virtually every aspect.

Exactly! Conversation over. I was used to driving a 5 liter Capri and got the same MPG with HALF the horse and torque. This is fine by me.

Prius!
Love this thread. I have owned a 2011 Prius for 2.5 years. I was getting 52 mpg average prior to putting cheap tires on it that have awful rolling resistance and now i am getting less than 46 mpg.
I am over the cheap tin sound when closing the doors. I am over everyone I encounter making fun of "you drive a prius" no balls, give me a break - really?, why in the hell are you driving that car?, what happened to your other car comments. I am over being ran over in traffic, tail gated, cut off. I am now second guessing whether the 46 mpg really makes a difference. Does it really help me financially to pay $996 per year for gas for the prius, or will the $2700 per year for gas for the 1LE be worth the $1700 additional dollars ? I have scoured every picture, every post, called so many dealers, asked owners, and watched every you tube video and review and driven 3 different 1LE's. I want to make the right decision. I am 46 years old and I do not want to waste time driving a prius, when i could have been getting smiles per gallon in the 1LE. It is hard to let go of the 4 doors and the hatchback convenience and the ease of the automatic transmission. The prius is paid for, so i have no car payment. They are giving me $15500 in trade so I feel i am getting my moneys worth out of the gas sipper. Should I let go of the prius and tske on the 1LE? Is it really worth the loss of the frugal gas mileage savings? Am I going to cry in agony like Paul 3 months from now and say, " what did i do?" I let go of a paid off car that got great gas mileage and was easy to drive (automatic, four doors, hatchback, etc) and now I am sifting gears, and dumping gas into it? The OP said should he sell? I say should I trade? What a true dichotomy? Dave

The 1LE IS my gas saving daily drive. My Land Cruiser gets 12.5 mpg on mixed driving.

Guess what I'm trying to say is if you buy this as a daily driver, you'll have some regrets. Get yourself an auto v6 if you really want a Camaro. If your plan however is to have another reason to make it to the weekend, it's a pure joy to own. You'll get a stupid grin across your face as soon as the weekend arrives and that grin will stay with you until Monday morning. I've owned many cars, including couple of European Ultimate driving machines. Nothing I have ever owned has brought me as much pleasure as owning this car has. (now watch the next 30 posts telling me how I'm wrong and this is a great daily driver, but we all have our opinions) |

You pay money to go on vacation, you pay money for entertainment.. well IMO it is about the most practical entertainment a person can buy.. hell keep the paid off prius and buy the 1le.. The gas saving during the week will almost make the payment

This car isnt ntoo bad at all on mpg for the performance. If you think it is, either youre always on it or you need to buy a BRZ.

OP, it'll get better. I averaged 21 mpg on a 400 miles going at 85-100 mph with couple stops and some traffic. That's insane if you ask me. Try that with a Corolla or any other econobox driving at 90-100 mph . MPG will be worse - I can bet. On my way back, I had to cruise at 55-60 mph (in 6th gear) for 30 miles to find a gas station and mpg was 25!
In the city, it's pretty hard for me to get over 12/13 mpg though. It's not the car's fault. I just drive like that. Shift gears fast (and skip as well) to improve city MPG. |

30-40mpg for under 4k. Probably under 3k. I know i used to bomb around in a 91 4 door golf. All of 90hp but id go 2 weeks before i would have to fill it up. Also made climbing into my fast car all that more enjoyable Just my .02 OR get a VW TDI. I think the 06 Jetta can be had under 10k. Motor will run forever. I did NW chicago burbs to south of indy and back on 1 tank. 625 miles! Averaged almost 50mpg and stayed between 75-80 with ac on the entire way |

I also "sometimes" wonder why I don't get the advertised 16MPG in the city? I drive a mix of freeway and city streets (with mostly city) 5 miles each way on weekdays. I average bet. 13.5 and 14.5MPG on the computer. I will be measuring it manually but I'm sure it's almost the same. I have about 7700 miles on the stock tires and mods in my Sig.
I've been experimenting on my driving style and it does not seem to make much difference (maybe 1mpg or so). For those getting 17-20MPG in the city, what am I doing that you are not doing or vice/versa? What tire pressures do you run? I think the 1LE option takes away some MPG due to the wider tires and gearing. At least that is what I've told myself. But hey, MPG is a joke when in this car it's a blast to drive!
