5th Gen a Collector Car ?

Read a lot of posts that say the 5th gen will never be a collector car due to too many built.

Well between '64-'69 approx 414K GTOs were built (which do pretty well at Barett-Jackson) compared to approx 596k US 5th gens built between '10-'15. Granted that a 182k difference but IMO can't help believe that the 5th gen will also become a collector car (especially manuals as less and less are built ) ...and with keyed ignitions (don't get rid of that switchblade!)

Hope to be around to find out as I had a new one of each: '66 GTO and a '13 Camaro

There will always be a market for a classic looking v8 Camaro ss. Not big bucks but there will always be a market.

Agreed! It is what it is at the moment. We never know what the future holds. Who knew the classic cars on certain models would skyrocket and what models etc. You never know what the future car buyers will want. I'm keeping mine and enjoying it for what it is today.

GM hasn't ditched the V8 yet so I don't think so but who knows

I read that Ford is actively trying to distance themselves from V8's and that does mean that whenever they quit making V8 Mustangs will be the day their values skyrocket

There's more awareness of future collectibility today than in the 60s to early 70s. I predict there'll be a greater proportion of pristine 5th gens 50 years from now than GTOs today. Based on numbers alone, I believe a manual SS sedan has a better shot at being a future collectible.

FYI-Fifth gen was redone in 2014 to replicate the 69 more . Mainly the tail lights.

Seems like people don't keep their cars as long nowadays as they use to, so you just never know. You don't see as many people dropping engines in cars when the old ones blow out which was pretty commonplace when I was a kid. In any event, I am keeping mine and when I hand her over to my kid I hope she will be in great shape for him to enjoy the memories we had with it !

I know ZL1 and Z28 are more than likely to become collectors. As far as for the SS maybe 1LE, 45th Anniversary SE and RS have a good shot. The good ol trick here would of been if Chevy dealership pulled something off like they did with the Yenko dealership back in the 60s.
