PSA: Making your SS faster then the ZL1 doesn't make it faster on a Road Course

Friendly advisory. It seems that some of you think because you are not getting the ZL1 and by making your car faster - is like having the ZL1 for less.

An SS that is faster then the ZL1 does not equal to the ZL1. A Z06 faster then the ZR1 is not a car equal to the ZR1.

***********************

I should have added a keyword - NOT NECESSARILY faster.

I've made the mistake in the past when I was younger of only focusing on HP..... Not tires, not brakes, not suspension - just HP. Learned the hard way if I focus on everything but HP first then I'm a lot faster around the track then just putting in a bigger cam/heads and headers.

Just because someone will have a ZL1 doesn't mean it will be faster than every SS.......

And yes if you have power adders and aftermarket suspension it probably will be faster than the lord all mighty ZL1 on the road course.

There is ALWAYS someone faster or has more hp. That's life.

Have you ever driven a cammed Z06 and a stock ZR1? I have. They put down the same power. Handling is about the same unless you are a professional driver

Power is easy. A cammed and blown SS will easily keep/outrun a ZL1. Some guys are making close to 700rw with the LS3. And as far as suspension goes a pricey aftermarket pfadt or pedders setup will easily outrun a ZL1 on the track. People think that just because it has a magnetic setup that it will be unbeatable. It'll be unbeatable in one respect only, and that's the ability to change stiffness on the fly to make the ride more comfortable on the street. However, if you think that it's stiffer and will pull more G's than a heavily worked SS you're sadly mistaken.

Some of you are obviously missing my point. Folks have been making comments " Oh my car is faster or oh I will make my car faster than the zl1. That's all good - but it still doesn't equal to the ZL1. I haven't heard anything about suspension, which I think is one of the nicest things about the ZL1. That magnetic ride makes the car super smooth for daily driving with the touch of button.

After spending 3 days in a Zr1 at Spring Mountain Motorsports I've experienced the big deal with the magnetic ride control. I'm sure you can get it in the SS, but at what cost?

Supercharger or Turbo is about 7k on average? :inono:. Suspension that will allow you to push a selection on how you want the car to ride? What is that? By the time you add that up and loosing all your warranty. Come on - does not equal the zl1.

Yes to both your questions and this is one of the reasons why I made my thread. Some are just looking at one aspect of the car - SPEED. If you are a 1/4 mile junkie then just boosting the car is a great idea.

But yes you are not one of the guys I am directing this thread to. Directing to those who forget about suspension. I run into quite a few guys who just think throwing in a supercharger or turbo that they just rivaled the zl1. Thats all.

Oh yea those guys that "think" they have ZL1 because their SS is modded are tools. I'm saying that the ZL1 is not unbeatable.
