Freaking out after finding rust...
Hey guys,
So I was underneath my car a few days ago and noticed some rust on the subframe. Initially it didn't look bad, but after poking around it started to appear worse. What do you guys think? How can I fix it? Can I get something welded in to reinforce or do I need a new subframe? |

Wow do you drive it right into the Ocean?
My car gets driven in the winter and I have some very minimal surface rust.

The first pic looks like it's been wrecked and got bad welds but that's just me
Like said above, I drive mine in the winter and have very little rust but I also wash it at least twice a month during the winter just to clean the underbody

I sanded the rust down to see the extent of it which is probably why the metal looks bare.
So what's the fix guys? |

Use to live in the northeast along shore before the days of special coatings for the frame and that rust you show is real minor compared to what I've seen in the past. If that is the only location looks like it is not even in a major load bearing area - and is below the cross-member welds.
A body shop pro could patch that up as good as new, shouldn't cost much at all. Wonder if previous owner out there in Hawaii routinely drove through salt water puddles in the area he lived? Maybe should check bottom of doors and inside trunk inner fender area just to be sure no water infiltration or rust there. Could check with local dealer to see if they have noticed this on Camaros before. Ron

Have a professional cut the rot out, once the area is cut out have it sandblasted. POR the inside of the frame in that area, weld in the new pieces. and POR the rest of the area. How is the rest of the car, is it just that area?
