Best shock/strut replacement for lowered SS

Time to make a change. Haven't seen many posts on this subject. The GM units are good but what about for a lowered car?

I just purchased Koni STR.T. I don't have any experience with them. I just lowered and replaced most of my suspension in the last few days. I could not find much on the topic either.

How is the ride quality so far?

Thanks Don. I'm researching right now but if I go with the 1LE set-up I'll get in contact with you.

No problem, I did all four corners myself in about 2 hours -- its easy to do if you just replace them with stock or the 1LE -- I'm lowered also (BMR)...

I went with a set of Koni STR-T. I like them so far and they worked well on Track day.

The Koni's are a good setup for the track, but are valved pretty aggressively for the street, so keep that in mind as ride quality will take a hit as a trade off for performance.

The best overall setup for lowering springs would be the OEM 1LE struts/shocks in my opinion; as long as you don't go much lower than 1.25" you should not have any issues.

Feel free to call, PM or email me anytime with questions.

Best regards,

Tyler

What kind of mileage were you guys getting from your stock shocks/struts? I just passed 56k and everything still seems fine, just not sure how much longer I should expect.

"Lowered" on ZL1 springs.

Even on stock springs, shocks/struts should be replaced every 40-60K miles as they'll begin to lose their damping. Those with lowering springs and use their cars on track or live in an area with bumpy roads will be on the lesser end of that spectrum.

Tyler

I added the Koni struts at 66,000. I really should have done it sooner. Driving at 70 on a smooth flat highway, the front of the car would start to rhythmically bob up and down with the slight unevenness of the road. The Konis are very firm, but really keep the car flat and smooth. I love them, but they aren't for a family car.

Tyler, what do you think about Z/28 OEM shocks/struts? Do you think they also have similar life, or would you expect them to have shorter life (or longer)? I'm merely asking since they do have this spool valve design, and wondering if people know of any impact to longevity, good or bad.

Disregarding the different tech they have, I suppose they might have a shorter life since they are likely pressurized more.

I though the z28 and zl1 have some kind of magnetic valving...so i dont think they'll work on ss cars
