20x12 or 22x12 Rears 2SS/RS
I know people can get 20x11 or 22x11 with 315's under the rear of these cars, but how about a 12" wide wheel with 335's or so? I want crazy fat without sticking out from the widest part of the rear quarter panel. I'd like to know if anyone has tried it or physically (numbers) why they haven't since it was deemed impossible/ugly. I understand the concepts of backspacing and offset along with the fact that 25.4mm/1in for determining overall tire width and sidewall height. I would like educated reasons, not "my friends brother knows a guy who said it won't work". I could answer this question myself by taking off a rear wheel and measuring, but I'd like to save myself the hassle if you guys already know the answer. Thanks.

i think it could work. i have 20x11s on mine and there plenty of room both ways for a wider wheel. i think it would be perfectly flush or may slightly poke out by maybe .250 depending on what tire brand you go with.

To eliminate a variable, let's just look at stock height.

He was running smaller diameter wheels. Widest I have seen in 20" is 11.5 with 315/35's....I'm running 20x11.5's

I'm probably going to end up taking a rear wheel off and doing all of the measurements to see if it will fit. I was hoping Nine Ball, ModBargains, or someone else who sells wheels all day long would give some expert feedback so we could all learn a little bit. I guess I'm looking for posts like:
"The nearest obstruction in the wheel well is xxxxxx. It sits X mm behind the mounting pad of the rotor. This would mean a backspacing of Y would be needed. With a backspacing of Y the wheel flange would be Z inches inside/outside the rear quarter panel". Hearing from someone who has put one on their car (with 335 rubber would be even better) to hear how things went would also be great. I know it's a pretty specific request. If no one can provide information like that, I'll just take the measurements myself and post pictures/measurements. Thanks. |

Just out of curiosity, do you have a picture of the rear of your car showing how the wheel/tire sit inside the fender well? How much clearance do you have to exhaust or the spring?

I work long shifts... If I have time this evening I will try to see what would limit a wider tire. I do know that my sidewall sits aprox 1/4" inside the wheel well in the rear.

Ok, i took a quick look. First off, im running 20x11.5 with 305/35/20's (P-Zero's) and my sidewall sits aprox .250 inside the well. If i were to try to install wider tires the sidewall bulge alone would put me flush with the wheel well so i only have one direction to go and thats in. The first thing i notice is that my wheel is pretty close to the lower control arm bolt but i could probably fit a 12" wheel or 12.5" if i cut the bolt.....BUT the main reason i cant go any wider is due to the inner fender well/body which is only about 3/8"-1/2" away from my inner sidewall. The widest that could be fit without some serious modification (on my car) is a 315/35/20. I may have overlooked somethings but since the limiting factor is the inner well/body i stopped looking.
SUX2BU did it with 18x11 wheels but after looking at my car i just cant see how it would work with 20x12 wheels and sit inside the wells......... http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...&highlight=335

Fen, thanks a bunch for taking the time to check that out. I'm sure I will still end up pulling a wheel and taking measurements, but I think I know what the answer will be now. I'll post my process, tools, and measurement process so someone else won't have to go through this.
Black, as good as that looksI'll have to pass on that setup. Thanks though. |

They will stick out unless you mini tub the car. Here are my 335s on 11" wheels. The inside would BARELY rub on hard turns and the outside stuck out about 1/8".
