I had a guy leaning against my fender once. I asked him what the payments were on the car he said he didn't know it wasn't his car. I told him what the payment was and that if he didn't stop leaning in my car I would kick his ass right off this ****ing planet. I'm a big dude so got to stepping out of my AO with a quickness. That's my minor altercation story concerning my Camaro.

Not always, certainly... but I'll guarantee those kids wouldn't have piled into OP's car if he'd had a pistol on his hip. Probably never would have even approached him inside the smoothie place. They were just punks who probably would have stolen his car had he given them his keys. Fortunately, they weren't serious thugs.
It is a cold reality of life these days, my friend: there are many bad people out there who will do some very bad things to you and/or your family if you cannot defend yourself. Best to be prepared.

They wanted the car! OP was fortunate they were just "kids" and there (probably) were people around to witness the event. What would YOU have done? Given them the keys and said, "have fun boys... thanks for liking my car"?

Several years ago I had purchased a mint 1980 vette and had drove it to work. As I was walking outside to get in I see across the parking lot one of my co workers pushing in the door handle trying to get in. I was like WTF, and yelled that to him too. He said sorry and that he just wanted to check it out. I cooled down and said no problem, just you should always ask before you touch someone else's ride. Its amazing how some people don't think .

Who said anything about "pull[ing] a gun" or "shoot[ing] someone"?

Again... who said anything about "pulling a gun". Thank you for your concern about my safety but, I can look out for myself.
