That's funny.

Now that mine has shown up, I am pretty confident that the VINs show up basically when they ship. Mine was in a QC hold for the last few days and should be escaping that hold now and shipping.

Dealers Know Squat (or they don't share info)

I ordered my car on November 15, 2008. Was promised delivery in Q2. So a few weeks ago, I start calling the dealer. "Nothing new. I'll call you as soon as anything happens."
Not good enough for me. I got in touch with someone inside of GM/Chevy. This person assured me my car was scheduled for production the week of June 15.
So last week, on Wednesday, I call my dealer again for an update. "Nope. Nothing's happened. I'll call you."
I go back to my source. I now have the VIN and the railcar number on which my car was placed. Delivery expected inside of 2 weeks. HOORAY!!!
My dealer salesman is out today. But tomorrow I am calling him to say that i want to start all of the paperwork now and not wait for his call to tell me the car has arrived.

This was a cancelled order we were fortunate enough to stumble upon Saturday at Roger Dean Chevrolet in Cape Coral Florida. Can't find the vin on the Chevy website and was just curious if anyone has any thoughts on why. The car was never listed in the dealers inventory on their website either. Just was curious on this. Thanks for any input.

Hi UCF woot
Your car and mine were built 1 day apart. We are both getting the same color combo. I ordere mine 10/20/08.
Mine was built on 6/17 and my dealer just informed me that mine was shipped, hope to have it in less than 10 days.
You do a great job helping people with a lot of info.

It has probably been stated before (not reading all 150 pages!), but why not have a customer log-in link on the GM Order Workbench to allow those waiting to check their own status. It would be restricted to just that, status. No changes, etc. Those that paid a deposit and have an order number would be eligible to setup and log-in. It would be therapy for many as they could go daily to see their progress, if any! :bangdesk:

This was suggested from the start. GM seems to have no interest in making this a reality. They want us to rely on our dealers for info.

The real issue is setting it up just because there was/is a situation that we're all dying to get our cars. Unfortunately, that is far from the norm. Generally speaking, very few people order cars; this is a quite unique situation. There most likely just isn't a cost justification to do what you'd like for a limited-time situation like this. Don't get me wrong- I agree with you that it would be nice and take a BIG load off of the 1800-GETSCREWED customer service number but it just ain't gonna happen.

Oh well, just a thought. It could free up some of the salesman's time, and do away with the 800# status section, which does not seem to be a responsive tool anyway. I think it is really a marketing tool, even when negative, to keep us , then and then !!!

Another problem would be the load on the server.

If they made it available to us, there are a couple hundred people that would be logging in EVERY DAY to see if it changed..... that would bog down the GM server and make it hard for them to do their work

Who says this has to be just for the Camaro? And the time required for this would be extremely minimal. One person could realistically crank it out it in a few hours. They've already got the data and the web servers. All they need is a simple page that takes the order number and some sort of verification (customer zip code for example) and it would just give a simple return of the order status. While not many people order cars, enough do to make this feasible. Also with the upcoming Volt sure to have a similar backlog of orders, it would be useful for that launch as well as other future highly anticipated launches.

Meh. It would be a drop in the bucket and no way it would make it hard for them to do their work. Besides, if they had something like this I would have to hit their server 10k+ times/day myself lol.

Not if they are soon to catch up on order requests. Like I said, just a thought!
