No More V8?

I was at the beach this weekend with 3 other families. They live on Long Island so you'll have to excuse them for this if it turns out to just be a stupid vicious rumor.

But my friends Paul and Dan both said that they read that Chevy will discontinue building Camaros with V8 engines. Due to government regulations and fleet mpg concerns, that only the V6 will be built in the future.

I have not been able to find any evidence of this elsewhere?

Has anyone here heard anything like this or is this just another Mustang-owner's rumor?

Thanks.

Rumor, but possibly no Z-28 and that is still speculation

Thats a very ignorant rumor. Everyone makes v8's they aren't just gonna cease to exist. Will restrictions and regulations get stricter, yes probably so. Will V8's disapear all together, doubtful. If you search on here you will find some real topics of the "CAFE" stuff and the possible regulations. Maybe your friends were a little jealous of your camaro and wanted to bring you down a little.

Never say never .....

Tom Stephens, GM’s Group vice president, global powertrain and quality, says in an interview with AutoObserver at the recent Detroit auto show that current regulatory and market trends – not to mention customer preferences – are skewing acutely to increased fuel economy and less environmental impact. The impact of the transformation cannot be conscientiously ignored, he says.

Those forces were the primary contributors to GM’s decision to stop development of the so-called UV8 program, the “U” standing for “Ultra.”

Those factors “forced us to re-prioritize,” says Stephens in regard to the UV8 program. He says the nation’s newly adopted energy bill and its mandate of 35-mpg fleet fuel economy by 2020 looms large over the industry. But just as strong are environmental awareness and the specter of $4-per-gallon gasoline and its impact on customer choice.

I think they meant in the future not any time soon but we could see the day.

You have to remember and I am not trying to be political so hear me out but the govt now owns GM so it they want to try and take things in the car industry in a different direction what is to stop them. If they say no more GM V8's only V6's, then pass a bill taxing gas to over $4 a gallon are people gonna buy a V8 Mustang or a V-6 Camaro?? Are they gonna buy a ford taurus or a Hybrid Impala??? Also remember that GM will be able to adapt quicker because they have an idea what bills and changes are coming.

Again I am not a conspiracy guy I am just saying I wouldn't put anything past anyone these days.
