I used Chemical Guys APC & Degreaser on my tires one day, I didn't hose it off immediately and the degreaser ate the finish on my powder coated wheels. It sucked and I used it on all my wheels before catching it. I had to have them redone. I called Chemical Guys and the powder coat guy. They didn't have much to say why it happened, but it did.

Wow man, so sorry about all your rims. I switched to Adams products after that even though I am not blaming CG (yet?).

I use Blue Guard all the time and I have slopped some on the rims. I always wipe it off, but that seems strange. I've seen that happen with aluminum and pvc cleaners but not with a dressing. I will spray some blue guard on some different materials when I get home and see what happens.

I don't think it is the Blue Guard by itself

I've switched to Adam's & Meguair's, I don't blame Chemical Guys persay, however I dislike CG marketing and nearly identical products. I wish there was a warning on the product though, apparently degreaser can react with certain powder coat finishes. Lesson learned, I use paint safe product only and avoid letting APC get near my wheels.

I went with another powder coat guy when I had them redone, he was thinking the grade of powder coat the other guy used might have not been the most durable and made for interior applications instead. My wheels held up nicely from when the second guy did them. I sold the car but the wheels looked mint. They held up better them these painted wheels on my 6th gen.

Agreed on the APC/degreasers, especially with powdercoat. One of the best, cheapest products I own is a gallon of Duragloss wheel cleaner, 100% pH balanced, safe for everything I've ever used it on; chrome, paint or powdercoat.

I used RimJob (wax for the wheels) . I bought it on Amazon and it helps with the cleaning of the rim but they still get a lot of break dust on them.

Planning to get some of the Adams wheel cleaner and see how it works.

Definitely interested in your wheel sealant method. Think it will work for the painted black rims too?

I've had horrible issues with massive amounts of brake dust on my wheels. Tried a bunch of different sealant approaches (blackfire crystal seal, carpro hydro2, etc) and none seemed to work that great.

I know this thread isn't really high on Chemical Guys right now, however I recently tried their Wheel Guard and it so far is working great. Kinda a PITA to hit all the angles, but it has been holding up very good with the brake dust on mine

Well we will agree to disagree, ive used Hydro2 on about eight or nine different sets of wheels and it works great when applied correctly. Nothing is easier.
