Anyone locking the connverter in 3rd at WOT?

I was wondering if anyone has tried locking the converter in 3rd at wot to stretch that gear out and maybe even prevent having to shift to 4th on stockish cars in the 1/4. Honestly I know only multi disc converters are built to apply at heavy load, and I don't know squat as far as the converter that comes in this a6.

Locking the TC in 3rd makes for some funky 3-4 shifts plus it kills any torque multiplication from the converter in the lower part of 3rd. All the Camaros we've tuned went quicker with 3rd gear unlocked.

I was just talking about, at the top of third, like 5800 or so. I'd be scared to do it on a stock converter tho

Really jacks with the 3-4 shift at the track. Tried it both ways on a lot of different vehicles. You're better off keeping it unlocked for quickest ET and longest trans life.

Patrick G,

I want to make my A6 "S" mode strictly for the 1/4 mile. What line pressures should I be using for the 1>2, 2>3, and 3>4 shifts at WOT. What's the minimum A6 torque management is safe.

The A6s are a little more in depth than that. You can apply pressure for each shift and differant tempertures settings leading up to differant torque values. You shouldnt do something like 150 pounds across the board. You'd also want to adjust a host of other tranny settings to marry them up.

Im not sure which software your using, but for your applicant, Id get a full tranny tune and upload it when you want to play, and when your cruising between track events, upload your stock tune.

Mine is shifting to 4th at about 6050 rpms is at about 100-101 mph, so it should definitely have to make a 4th gear shift by the end of the 1/4.

I do my own tuning with efilive. Your dad may need to do a fuse pull if the power seems that low.

Was the old Tune, running great after the IPS tune.

Does removing the battery cables for 15 mins or so accomplish the same thing? And exactly what is happening with a fuse pull??

Check the Sticky, removes low octane table from when dealer put in 87. But if its tuned then no need...
